Renault Scenic '53 reg. 1600 petrol - Engine cutting out - rgale40

I've had an ongoing problem with the dephaser pulley on my car - I believe it's a fairly common fault with these Renaults.

I've not done anything about it because it hasn't been too much of a problem - it just takes 2 or 3 attempts to start from cold, but other than that the car runs ok. Also, to be honest, I can't really afford the £600 repair bill that I was quoted from Renault..!!

Yesterday, the car started as normal and ran ok but the engine cuts out whenever I stop. It re-starts with a bit of welly from the throttle, but cuts out again whenever the revs drop. There are no blips or misfire's - when it's running, everything seems fine.

Could this be the dephaser pulley fault progressing, or something else?

I had a similar problem around 18 months ago, which turned out to be the camshaft sensor. It's definately not a repeat of that......I've got access to another car of the same model and I'm able to swop parts around.

I was wondering about the TDC sensor? Whenever I start the car, hot or cold, it always needs a bit of throttle..??

any help would be appreciated.

Many thanks.
