I have a car thats insured and had been thinking of buying a newer one. Dropped on one that seemed like a good buy and bought it on the spur..I've now found out in detail how the continuation of insurance thing works and that if a car is declared sorn the tax is imediately cancelled.

So firstly what options do I have if any other than SORN which will lose me the tax already on the car which apparently I cant even reclaim UNTIL I have a log book in my name or taking out a full years second policy with no no claims only to cancel it in a month or so when I have put the private plate from my existing car on retention and sold it so I can move my main policy?... Something keeps eating my replies lol. Third time lucky I hope
When I spoke to the DVLA they never mentioned the option of doing it at the DVLA office, they just flat out said I couldnt tax it until a log book had been issued in my name

My 2lt hdi citroen xsara picasso is hard to start when amb. temp is cold. The engine has to be cranked over many times before it starts and in extreamly cold conditions it appears to start and run on three cylinders for 5 to10 seconds before running normally. Apart from the bad starting the car runs fine. I have had the car on a main dealers computor and they found no faults, but told me it could be a faulty injector. Can anyone help with this problem Read more

Had it been an XUD engine I would immediatly have said glow plugs but my Hdi starts instantly without giving them time to get hot. It sounds to me as though you have low compression on one cylinder. Its possible that its an injector but that should have shown up on the fault codes and if faulty they often cause knocking when they are running. It might be worth checking the glow plugs though just in case yours is not a naturally good starter.

Currently I go up the M3 onto the A316, through Chiswick and Hammersmith, past Westfield and follow the A40/A41 Park Road (According to Google Maps)

It's slightly longer than the M4 route the GPS took me once, but you keep moving and it's a nicer route.... Read more

I currently drive an 08 plate Nissan Micra and am very happy with it having previously driven a 51 plate Micra and have never had any major problems with either. At the moment I drive about 180 miles a week between commuting to work and social driving. Next year my work is moving offices and instead of an 11 mile drive each way to work, it will be 33 each way, mostly on motorways. This will take my weekly mileage to over 400!

So I reckon I am going to have to get a new car as I don't think a Micra would be up to that mileage daily. Any advice what I should buy? I haven't got a budget at present but I won't have a large amount to spend. Most important to me is fuel economy (I want a petrol and not diesel), safety and reliability. I live in Scotland so it also needs to be good in ice and snow and start first time before 6am when frosted up and I'm leaving for work! I have heard that Ford Focus has good fuel economy and I liked the idea of a Golf but then I read the prices and they're too expensive..... Ideally I'd look to buy a 1 to 2 year old car.... Hi, My Mondeo is suffering an intermitant fault with the seatbelt and speedo not working. It's happening more often. The milage reading shows when first switched on but on starting the engine it goes of and the speedo does not work when driving. The seat belt warning also fails at the same time. Any ideas ? (short of just relying on my satnav !)

pullgees

Recently had the tracking done which kept the car driving straight for about two weeks and yet again it's slightly drifting to one side.

Instead of spending another £20 or so, I just want to give the adjustment a tweek myself, ( that's all it needs). What I want to know is, how sensitive is the adjustment on the tie rods to make a difference? Would say a quarter turn be excessive? The reason for asking is to reduce trial and error, ie. adjust - road test - adjust - road test etc. ... Read more

pullgees

A quarter turn on both sides, to keep steering wheel aligned, is quite a bit of adjustment. At a rough guesstimate, about equal to 1mm of adjustment on alignment +/- 0.25mm. I would try one flat of the nut each side, and keep a written record each adjustment you make, or risk getting lost in adjustment...

I drive a Great Wall Voleex. That's going to be rather confusing. It looks to me like an old Yaris, with a facelift malfunction.
