Madf - You know the way everything plastic in the 70's /80's was cool becasue they used plastic as a material in its own right to embrace the fact that it LOOKS PLASTIC

hi guys

was wondering if you could help me?

I'm currently having problems with my 1.8 astra, I recently got the engine replaced as piston failure occurred when driving down the motorway due to low oil, the mechanic said now after the new engine in when He reconnects the battery leads without the ignition on the fuel injectors are staying open and filling the cylinders and inlet manifold full of fuel.
The mechanic said it was a ECM so that was another 150pound, So I purchased a 2nd hand brain off him with chip and reader and the mechanic replaced it with NO CHANGE!

I think I might be getting taken on and was wondering if you could explain if this was the cause or not or what is the problem?

Any help would be much appreciated

Kind regards

Hi guys,

thanks for the replies ;)

Found the starter wires were mixed up (earth and live) as on the vauxhalls the live is black and the earth is brown as I just found out.lol. It was causing a massive short and opening the injectors.

Yes big John I will certainly take your advice and replace the oil again.

Many thanks again

Cheers

Car temperature usually normal but noticed it was at top of "normal" range this afternoon. I switched on car heater but only cold air blasted into car. Despite this the temp gauge did return to middle of "normal" range.

Got home and turned engine off but fan carried on running for at least 5 minutes.... Read more

There may be air trapped in the system preventing it from filling properly. Start the engine and (carefully) squeeze the larger coolant hoses. This may loosen air bubbles.. As it's a diesle it will not warm up idling.. So

Carefully check coolant : and top up if needed....

I recently had a new master brake cylinder fitted which involved opening the gearbox. A new clutch was fitted at the time and I was told that the dual mass flywheel was in the middle of its tolerances and did not need changed. However there has been a problem with the clutch with it being extremely stiff so they are going the strip the box again and fit another one. I have read a lot recently about dual mass flywheels failing and wondered if I should get it replaced at the same time as the car has done 102k miles. Suggestions would be welcome. I do intend to keep the car for a good few years yet. It is an 07 model 2.4 the last of the old shape.

Sounds more like a misfire or one cylinder down on the others to me.

Have you had the plugs out to check them?

With Christmas looming it's time to buy a member of the family an MP3 player. As stated, the budget is up to £40. Does anyone have any experience of the above? Or can someone suggest a good one i.e. straightforward to use and without too much treble. If necessary, I think the latter could be sorted by different headphones.

If you know how to drive properly. That's not my opinion, but the opinion of someone who thinks that if you drive sensibly, you don't need them. It makes him reallly angry when people say you've got to spend £200 on another set of tyres. I wish I could get 4 tyres for that price!

Got my new Mazda 5 sport, 1.6, yesterday. Love the car. Fantastic leather seats, awesome slidy doors and the new built in Tom Tom sat nav that i can connect to my iphone. All in all very very impressed.

Just two things urk me, but it does not take anyhting away from what is a bloofy brilliant car.

Number one - Using the key fob to open slidy doors only the nearside opens. Yes, the electrics are switched on and the door switch on both doors are in the same place. Both doors operate on electrics when using switches and handles. Fault? If ot is I'll get it fixed sometime.

Number two - on the iphone video playback i cannot get the video togo full screen. I have pressed the right button on the screen to no effect? Fault? or video format - yes it is a digital copy off itunes.

Happy Motoring

Hi. I had a bump with another car at the beginning of this month and was given a producer for my licence insurance certificate and mot certificate. Took these things into police station today to be told I'm not covered to drive my boyfriends car even though I'm on a fully comp policy!(so this bit I get) however was also told that my licence had been revoked in feb this year! I attended court in April for a speeding fine but didn't have my licence took off me was given a 14 day ban on the grounds losing my licence would cause hardship. What I don't understand is the police said my licence has been revoked because I didn't send it off for points putting on but I didn't receive points also they revoked it in feb but my court appearance was in April! I don't know what I'm supposed to do now and what does it actual mean to have my licence revoked surely I should have received a letter etc or my insurance company would have known two months ago when I took out a new policy? Any info would be greatly appreciated thanks Read more

Thanks. Still don't understand though should the court have kept my licence as they handed it back to me after the hearing this was almost a year ago now and this is the first I've heard of it!

i have a knocking noise in the cam belt cover of my 1.8i 2004 citroen xsara picasso. when i took the cover off i discovered what seems to be a free spinning wheel within the top rear pulley with very worn rubber pads in the center of it, making it wobble as it spins and cause the knocking. does anyone know what this wheel does and can i replace it without any need to take the cam belt and pulley off?
