I have owned a toyota yaris from new since march 2010 after about a year (9000 miles) the clutch started to slip and I believe that the dealer fixed it under warranty. I am now at 18000 miles and about 9 monhts later and the dealer informs me i need a new clutch at £950 which will not be under warranty (toyota have also refused to contribute) apparently it is due to my driving style/wear and tear any input? Just by way of an update, and following continuing discussion, the Dealer has now been back to me, and a satisfatory conclusion has been reached.

Thanks to all of those who contributed.

Hello Woody37, I have much sympathy with your situation. A BMW turbo should not fail at 45K miles. However to pursue a claim you need to demonstrate that you have taken all the correct precautions against turbo failure. As HJ often points out, when the car has been on an extended run and the turbo is very hot, it needs to cool down with the engine idling for a couple of minutes to maintain lubrication to the bearings. I have followed this advice for many years and no turbo problems at all. Very difficuly call to make a legal challenge with.

My brother and brother in law are both badge snobs. In the 10 years since I have owned my Skoda Superb their Mercedes and BMWs' have been a tale of woe. One Merc had 4 new turbos in 18 months alone. The BMW had a turbo failure at 15K, new engine mounts at 25K plus other niggles not expected from an expensive 'superior' badge. My Skoda: zilch, nada, nowt. Just good reliable motoring. They have now both changed(post retirement-own bills) to Audi and Ford. Premium prices for premium cars don't always add up to premium motoring or satisfaction guaranteed. Best of luck. Cheers Concrete

Hi

How do I put oil into the gear box of my automatic ford focus...? I was told at the garage where I take it for its annual mot that there is a separate filler for this I thought you just put the oil in the engine oil filler on the top of the engine and where is the filler part to do this ? thank you very much... Automatic cars usually have two dipsticks, one for the engine and one for the transmission - for these it's usual to use the transmission dipstick tube as the filler for it.

Make sure you're checking the transmission fluid level correctly - it needs to be done with the car warmed up, engine running, transmission in Park - wipe the dipstick then re-dip to check the level....

Anyone got any idea how to remove the EGR valve from the engine, i have a fault code up which says EGR sticking or not working properly, had the bright idea of removing it to try cleaning first, took all the visible screws out one of which started leaking water from the screw hole, either way it wont budge must be bolted on elsewhere but i am blowed if i can see where. I use the car as a cab so its well out of warranty mile wise, 108,000 greatful for any help i can get Read more

Sorry it didn't work ... I wonder if the EGR solenoid actuator is a problem, have you tried cleaning the connector to it? They can go a bit funny ...

Anyone got real-world feedback on what this engine is like to live with e.g any problems, real-world MPG (anybody get close to claimed 40mpg from Ford specs on a longer run at steady speed)?

Also, any downside to the version with higher output (240hp) over standard tune (203hp)? e.g is it much thirstier under normal driving condiitons? Read more

Welcome to the forum, Uptheposh (are you from Peterborough I wonder?).

Similarly, I've got a petrol (Octavia vRS estate) after five diesel cars, and the good news is that your fuel economy should improve as the car is run-in. Mine will do a sporting 38 mpg on a long run, but it w asonly 33-34 when the car was new last March....

I see that Continental allow for the tyres to be in a pile, but state they should be rotated every few weeks.
