you need to take it off and pressure test it.
failing that you could bypass it but bare in mind you will have removed the oil cooler so keep an eye on the temperatue especially in traffic. clean the water pipes in and out of the cooler once its bypassed, drive it for a bit and then check if cooler. if oil has formed in the pipes / started leaking out you know its that.
After all the hype from VW concerning the performance advantages of piezo injectors over solenoid actuated injectors, I find it slightly satisfying to see a design "U" turn and a reversion to the more reliable solenoid actuated devices.
I wonder if the cost of retrofitted replacements together with the risk of litigation (especially in the US where the attached document originates) has initiated this change of policy.... Read more
Ben, if your vehicle is MY '05 (10th digit in VIN) it will have Bosch solenoid actuated injectors. A confirmation can be made if you lift the lid of the ECU container - Bosch ECU for Bosch injectors, Siemens for the others. A paper label on the ECU identifies its maker.
If you have a hissing noise you have a boost leak which will reduce engine output and may illuminate the MIL. The wire "horseshoe" clips on the rubber boost pipe couplings fret the aluminium ears on the hose ends, causing the joint to spring apart under conditions of high boost. Look here carefully and fit new "O" rings - they're not dear and are available over the counter from a VW dealer. New hoses are expensive - but improvisation pays......
Recently bought a Seat Leon with the 1.9 VW diesel in 150hp form. However, I am convinced the car is not running right as it seems sluggish across the board and does not accelerate hard in the lower gears as would be expected of a reasonably powerful turbodiesel.
The car will still do 70+ on the motorway so does not seem to be in limp mode. Also, there seems to a quite a loud whistling noise under acceleration as the turbo boosts.... Read more
The CEL light is not lit while driving - I'll need to check if it illuminates on start-up.
MAF has been replaced in the past, but could still be faulty....

Any suggestions gratefully received ... I don't know what to do now! (In "Subject" I wrote Puma/Fiesta because Pumas use Fiesta parts). Bought car 3 months ago so I don't know its history although it did pass all the online checks including accidents. But 1 rear wheel bearing was whirring when I bought it, although not too bad. Just got it replaced last week,, (watched him do it), and when I drove it home from the mechanic, the whirring noise was still there! Got worse over the week so took it back today and they confirmed this new bearing had failed ... there were little bits of metal that had sheared off around it. They replaced it with a new one, and again, when driving it home, whirring noise was still there, so my wheel bearing problem is still not fixed! Could there be another problem with the car that is making the wheel bearings fail? Please help! Anyone heard of this problem before? Read more
Pumas/Fiestas suffered from water ingress into the wheel bearings and a modified part with seal was made. If the stub axle is chewed up, the seal will fail.. and let in water..
my laguna 2, 2006 model is having serious electrical problems ranging from fault in injection system to the power windows, i have spent so much money trying to fix this car. computer picked throtle pedal position sensor switch and oxygen sensor as cause of the injection fault, should i go ahead to repair? am afraid of making further expenses. divson Read more
I rmember that someone posted on HJ that all Renaults seem to come with 55000 faults programmed into the ECU from new and the ECU selects your next fault at random according to the mileage. Personally, I will never buy another French car after getting bitten by two Citroens-perhaps you should get rid if it can be repaired cheaply?

There is quite a lot of service spare part commonality with GM (Vauxhall and Opel), and there a lot of SAAB specialists who will doubtless corner the market in dealer spares.
Any problems can always be aired on specialist sites like:...
HJ's Saturday column relates a tale of a motorist being penalised by a council, not the police, for doing a 'U' turn.
Since when have 'U' turns been illegal (unless signposted)?... Read more
If the motorist says 'no offence' he can appeal to an independent tribunal, the Parking and Traffic Adjudication Service. Using the press instead is either misguided or hook wriggling.

One of the common problems on these is broken/fractured wiring from the body to the tailgate .Check the condition of the cabling where it runs though the rubber trunking. Also does the car have heated mirrors?these may be on the same fused circuit.hth

If the water pump does not turn freely, it can dislodge the toothed cam belt and cause catastrophic engine damage. Consequently, it is sensible to change the water pump (plus tensioners and pulleys), when you change the cam belt.
The thermostat on these engines has a finite life and tends to stick open. An open thermostat will prevent the engine from reaching its optimum operating temperature....
