I don't want to make this too long winded so i'll try and summarise..... Read more
I have been informed by Skoda UK, via our Dealer that the mechatronic unit will disengage drive to prevent the clutch pack from overheating, this when attempting to move off slowly uphill, i.e. manouvering out of a tight parking space on a slope or sitting in heavy traffic on a slope.
Sensors at work etc etc... Read more

Hi, I'm hoping some of your knowledgeable people will be able to offer me some advice.
I'm looking at buying a 2001 BMW 320 ci convertible, it's only done a genuine 28k, and seems to be very clean. It's going for £6k which I think is reasonable.... Read more
Well, not the whole car, just the engine!
it might not be quite that bad, timing belt went, damage to the engine is being assessed but it doesn't sound good... I suspect we will replace the car, so my budget has just been reduced somewhat....
Read a couple of magazine reviews (two years old), and they don't inspire - which is surprising given it's a conventional torque convertor box rather their older CVT or robotised manual.
Has anybody any up-to-date experience of this autobox, please, as the rest of the Fiesta package gets rave reviews? Have Ford sorted it out? Read more
Isnt that covered by 'apples and oranges i know..' then?
You dont have to fit it with runflats anyway, plenty prefer normal tyres.
Hello All,
I am starting to consider replacing our trusty 03 Micra, My first thoughts were to get a 3-4 Year old Fabia diesel, I have just read the reviews on HJ however and have been suprised to seem that this car is not as bullet proof as Skodas have seem to become.... Read more
Hello All,
...
I have owned a 407SW 1.6 HDI 04 Reg for nearly three years now and for the last few days have been experiencing slight vibration through steering wheel and noise when tight turning at slow speed, which has gradually got worse. I have tried checking fluid level but the unit is a black container and I am unable to see if there is a med/max level indication on it anywhere. Having taken off the filler cap, there appears to be an inner white plastic insert, no sign of any fluid, but looks wet inthe bottom of it. I am no motor mechanic as you can guess. I am a new member and would be grateful of any help from you experts out there. Help! My expertise is being an owner of a recycled office furniture company and can happily advise on such matters, but am a dimwit at motors. Thanks Read more
Hello
I am sure that you may well have solved the problem by now, but just in case I will give you the benefit of my experience as a power steering specialist....
Hi, i'm having difficulties with the central locking on my fiesta as it unlocks itself every time I lock it. The problem started a couple of days ago and no matter how I try to lock it the locks begin to 'whir' after a few seconds and then unlock.

IIRC a Fiesta Ghia of that age had immobilizer, double locking, burglar alarm and remote(one key-and it was infra-red not radio-had to be pointing at car from short distance-pick up was behind mirror);it sounds as if you have problems with the micro-switches fitted in the doorlocks. To find which one ,open the bonnet, alarm switch should be on front upper crossmember, push it down and release, keep doing this till alarm sounds-you have then entered diagnostic mode-open each door in turn. The alarm should sound as each door is opened-if one doesn't,you've found the faulty switch.Could also be the wiring between the doors and the main loom.To exit diagnostic mode, close bonnet and start car.
Sorry if this one's been asked before.
I know a new car 1st registered can be taxed for 12 months + 1 week and I'm pretty sure I've bought new cars in the past with 12months + 2 weeks tax.... Read more
Don't rely on the dealer to do it automatically - most will but some you need to specifically ask/tell otherwise you just get 12 months from the start of the month, so losing part of the month.
please can anyone tell me the mileage the cambelt should be changed on the volvos s40 1.6 diesel year 2010 i think this engine is also the one used by ford, citroen, etc. Read more
Basically, was driving down a road which had essentially two lanes (there was also a bus lane on each side). On one side, say that is heading north, the road is marked with distance markers, and a gatso type camera is facing towards those markers, clearly shooting cars heading north. The limit is 30.
I am travelling south on the road, there are no marking on my side, and I am around 20 metres away from the camera when I get a flash in my face. I don't doubt I was speeding. If you had asked me before yesterday the same question I ask you, I would say categorically not possible - the road markings are a legal requirement, and the camera can't take a photo of your front registration (due to bikes etc.)... Not all speed cameras require road markings-there are at least five approved types.
Seconded. I've said this before and I'll say it again. My mother-in-law's Daihatsu Cuore does nothing but sit outside on her drive and potter down to the shops occasionally. I doubt it gets properly warmed through most of the time. It's been doing that for over ten years now with no hint of any problems....
