i purchased the focus about three weeks ago after my fiesta was stolen. It appeared fine, payed a fair price and have driven about 450 miles in it already. The car was serviced last week and all appeared great, however, tonight it broke down saying 'engine system fault'. We had to call green flag but when they ran a diagnostic it did not show a code. the bloke said it might be one of the pumps???? Any thoughts on problem and also do I need to take it to a Ford garage to get it sorted or will anywhere do?? AAAGGGH!

If it has an 'in tank' fuel pump that might be the first place to look.

The factory one is made from mesh and rather small, A large full size road Atlas hasn't a hope of fitting in.

The only pockets I've come across - in seat organisers - are even smaller than what I've got, on account of all the other pockets that are included with aftermarket seat organisers.... Read more

I remember many years ago that "taxi/police special" versions of some mainstream cars - the Ford Granada was one that comes to mind - had the option of zipped rooflining. Roof space seems to be unused or ignored these days, with the exception of a few cars, mostly MPVs and van-like cars like the Kangoo, Doblò and Berlingo/Partner. The Zafira's roof "channel" with its pop out drawers has been dropped for the new model Tourer: I remember Jeremy Clarkson commenting that it wasn't much good except for storing sticks of celery... Now that aircon has all but replaced the sunroof, perhaps it's time to look upwards once again for some much needed storage space!

Hello Zuave, you have certainly covered a lot of dealers and makes on your search. When in the Skoda dealership you should look at the Superb. Also don't discount the Hyundai i40 or the new Kia Optima. A lot of car for your money. Good luck. Concrete

Good news for islanders and their visitors is that fuel duty has been cut by 5p/litre on the Scottish Islands, ie Northern Isles, Western Isles, Inner Hebrides, Clyde Islands as well as on the Scilly Isles.

The differential has been approved by Europe and starts in March 2012. Read more

they can get to the free university places much more cheaply now and the free parking at hospitals too.

Because the Scottish Government diverts funds from elsewhere within Scotland to pay for those - the formula used for deriving the total Scottish budget, based on population, still uses the same Barnett formula that's been used since 1979....

Hi all, I tried to start my car and when I turned the key there was thud, and now when I turn the key, there is a clicking sound, not unlike a stuck starter motor.

Not sure if this is relevent, but the dipstick was not fully in it's hole and the oil filler cap is missing,(but not on the floor under the car). Do these motors pressurise for any reason?... Read more

The battery probably exploded because there was a loose connection on it which created a spark which ignited the hydrogen. Make sure the connections are clean and bright and apply some vasaline to them.

Hi I suspect that my focus needs a Eolys top up, it is an expensive business taking it to the garage to do that, I have noticed that you can get it cheap on Ebay, but I need advice on how to find where the tank is and to carry out the procedure.

I would only use the genuine Ford fluid .It is about £200 for the 5litre refill kit ,but the car takes around 2.5 litres. Then you have the added problem of resetting the dpf system through the diagnostic system. The tank sits at the back of car by the rear axle beam.It is a very messy job as the fluid is like creosote.May be an idea to give Ford dealer a call as they often do a special offer on this job as they only charge for the fluid used.hth
