While stuck in a jam the other day I cast my mind back to my most enjoyable drive ever. It was from london to Blandford in the wee small hours in a 2 litre Vauxhall Victor and the road was clear all the way. A starry night too I had a completely clear run along the Salisbury-Blandford road too with headlights seemingly shining out forever ahead. Read more

I remember my 1,600 mile drive from Stafford to Naples in 2 days in 2002. I was working in Italy in the Forces and was on the lookout for a decent family car with good mpg and a big boot. I wanted a right-hand drive car as eventually I would take this car back to the UK when my overseas tour ended. I settled on a Toyota Carina as these had a combination of everything that I was after. I gambled on there being some available in the UK and caught a £25 flight back to Stanstead where my parents picked me up. Next day, withdrew cash from my UK bank, looked at a few and settled on a 1997 1.8GS petrol Carina with 46k on the clock. Bought it, sorted insurance, booked Eurotunnel. Two days later I was on my way!

I set off at 8am and just kept going, only stopping for refreshments and fuel, 80mph all the way. I eventually made it to Turin before I could no longer stay awake at about 2.30am, so I pulled over into the first Autogrill, jumped into the back seat and fell asleep....

Many thanks. I'll check it out. PWcars (where I bought it) are going to look at it for me as it is still under guarantee, but I thought it worth collecting some info before I went. Honest John wesite tells me it's a common problem & to get it to a Fedauto site. Problem is, there isn't one in Oxfordshire, so I'll see what Pwcars can do.

my 04 Peugeot 307 1.4 petrol 16v has done 42000 miles. In its recent service the peugeot dealer flagged up an issue with the head gasket and said it needed replacing. the car is not smoking, not losing oil or water, not overheating and there are no visual leaks on the engine block.
how urgent is this job and does it warrant the £1200 price tag the peugeot garage put on it?

Many thanks jag... Read more

Hi All,

My Old man borrowed the keys to my 406 last weekend, gave him the spare rather than the plip, and after driving 20 miles, stopping (engine off) to hitch a trailer, starting, driving 150 yds or so and stopping again to load up, car would then not restart.... Read more

These pumps can become intermittent and kept going by mechanical vibration when the car is running, if its not running try tapping the top of the cover in the fuel tank, probably accessed from under the rear seat.

Dealers selling new cars and offering thousnds of pounds in special offers are on the increase and why is this ,the debt crisis would be the obviouse one ,but there is another reason many of these cars are old stock and are not E6compliant ,not that they will tell you that ! dealers are going to stuck with thousands of old stock that they will have to get rid of to the unsuspecting customer ,diesels are a case in point the government is bringing in E6 regs where you will have to a particle filter fitted to your diesel if you dont you will being payiny higher road tax a, and will be fined for going into the governments L.E.Z. low emission zones that are spring up all over the place , plus there,s the congestion charge you wont be exempt on that one .

So what is being done to warn people about this problem NOTHING IS WHAT as it damage profits , people have a right to know that is coming in 2012 /2013 .... Read more

Looking at one of these as a used purchase. Fitted with all the bells & whistles but I'm wary about Sports suspension, having had a VW group car fitted with it & the ride is harsh to put it mildly.

Anybody got / driven one of these and inclined to enlighten me on how it rides, especially versus the standard S-Max suspension setup? Read more
