Hi Andy

Its very unusual for the gearbox internals to fail - although not impossible. The selector for 1st and 2nd are the same which indicates an internal fault but I would get somone who knows what they are doing to check the linkage....

Today I noticed petrol and 130.9 per litre while diesel was a whopping 11 pence more at 141.9 pence. Not long ago the diffence was as little as 2 or 3 pence. I wonder why the price difference has become such a gulf? Read more

A litre of diesel weighs considerably more than a litre of petrol and contains more energy therefore the difference the price.

Sainsburys by my mothers sell petrol 128.9 and diesel 133.9 as do both Asda and Esso

My friend did the plug up with a huge breaker bar mast time (I have warned him about doing this now!) and I can't get the now rounded plug out.

I've tried an impact driver, hammering a smaller socket on, and pipe, mole and Stillson grips.... Read more

I bought one of these as I'm always changing oil and got fed up of scrabbling around underneath. It works a treat, just take the car for a hard drive, get the oil really hot, connect up and make a cup of tea - job done! And yes, it does remove all the oil, have measured it and checked against the spec.

......when turning to the left (around a corner) and the ESP/ABS kicking in. It is annoying and have had two good mechanics have a look and found nothing wrong. They can drive it and see/feel the problem but no sense otherwise. I have tried VAG-COM today to see if that picks up and problems but not in that area!

Any ideas before I start spending proper money?... Read more

I would have a stab by saying that assuming they have checked all of the steering links and rods, the fault area may be in the area on the hub/wheel bearing region as this is where the ABS sensors would be and what could cause ESP/ABS to trigger. I would look at this next.

Hi

i have a citroen c3 1.4 16v 2003 model, i recently changed the fuel pump and injectors due to the original fuel pump wearing and metal filings blocked the injectors. I have flushed the fuel pipe system and had the fuel tank professionally cleaned. All the pipework and elec connections are back in place and have put new diesel along with inj cleaner. i have tried starting the car but to no avail, it appears to nearly start but not quite.... Hi, I just received a PPC from a company called OPC stating that I stayed on a car park for 20 minutes longer than the maximum stay. They state they have photographic evidence of me entering and leaving. The fine is for £100, £50 if I pay within 14 days (this increase/discount surely can't be legal). The car park is a free car park. Is this illegal as I did not think company's could isue fines unless backed by a court judgement? If it is legal, then surely as the car parking is free then they have not suffered a loss anyway and have nothing to sue me for? The letter threatens court action if no payment is received in 28 days. The letter is on bright yellow paper and looks official. It has a BPA stamp on it. The fee seems extreme for 20 minutes overstay in a free car park , and on a day when it was not very busy. Have you any advice you can offer?

NB: I went back and had a look at the site and there is a sign at the entrance - I did not notice it when parking - it does clearly say max stay 3 hours/free car parking, it only details that a parking charge will be issued if fail to comply in very small writing at bottom of sign. Read more

I went back to the car park and on one of the signs it does state that if you overstay you will be charged £100, £50 if paid within 14 days and another £300 will be added after 28 days. Does this count as an advertised charge?

Last year I manage to mangle one of my snow chains. Best not to ask. More hopeful than anything else I sent it back to RUD to see if it was repairable. I can only commend them on their service as I have a new set of chains delivered for this winter at no cost. I use RUD chains for three of our cars and being a mile and a half up a steep farm track in the Highlands of Scotland, we have found them essential when the snow falls. Last year I was able to get through fresh snow that was as high as the bonnet on the discovery which is no mean feat. I find them easy to get on and off and with the service that this company supplies, I would recommend this make to anyone. For those that wonder about snow socks, we have used these for three years and can recommend them. My son uses a set every winter and always confuses people as to how he can get by when all others get stuck. OK, they won't get you up deep snow drifted farm lanes but they will manage most minor unploughed roads. Read more

A large notice on my sunvisor tell's me that the airbag system must be checked and tested after 10yrs. What will happen if it isn't checked and tested ? Read more

It makes "thumbs outside wheel" de rigeur (not that it shouldn't be anyway).

A colleague's wife had a very nasty shunt a few years back. The airbag deployed. Her only notable injuries were one badly sprained and one slightly broken thumb, from the airbag forcing her arms sideways while her thumbs were inside the wheel rim....
