Hi guys,
Volkswagen Passat 1.9 tdi 90bhp (2000). Was wondering if anyone here can point me in the direction of a good online parts retailer. Have a few things needed and I know the local provider is quite steep for some things.... Read more
Can anyone assist. Hope its a simple fix. Rear windscreen wiper just stopped working -washer still working ok. Checked fuse by drivers door post behind pull down flap and ok (think on same circuit as front windscreen wiper). Think there may be a dedicated rear windscreen wiper relay as well but cannot locate this. Maybe is something else. Have considered fractured wires in rubber boot between car and hatchback but that seems ok.
Any assistance very welcome.... Read more
Thought I would give this previous posting one more try as the problem persists - I understand there may be a relay that controls the rear wiper as well as the fuse (located) but I cannot seem to locate this relay - seems there were many variations as to where fuses were place on this car. May also be something else entirely?
Any assistance welcome....
I can't find my car key and having torn the house apart I can only conclude it fell out of my pocket whilst I was out and about sometime yesterday or the day before.
I know I need to contact the dealer if I want a replacement but what happens if someone finds it and wanders round the streets looking for the car? Can you 'cancel' a lost key?
Spam if I ever saw it as a matter of interest how do you get the ECU codes ?
HELP! I've been a typical female and gone and put 1L of engine oil in my fuel tank by mistaking (was panicking when my car broke down for the first time in my life and wasn't thinking properly). I put in about 5L of petrol after realizing my mistake and drove about 5kms home with no problems. But after reading forums I now don't know if I should try and siphon everything out of the tank myself, take it to the mechanic to get it emptied or just top it up to full and keep driving it. Help please? :( Read more
thanks for the help :) should i really not even try siphoning it out? i wouldn't know where to get one with the valve on the end though so that you don't have to suck to get the petrol flowing
I remember watching a TV program years ago about a motorway crash, but the only part of it I can remember is where they take a lad to scrapyard to see the shell of the car he was driving.
A long shot I know but can anyone remember what it was called? I don't think it was a 'clip' show, it was all about this one crash caused by fog (I believe) Read more
Looks like you might be right! Thanks

It's sadly true that the first thing most insurers will do is try and find a way to wriggle out of paying up, however straight you might have been with them. I can appreciate that there is a multitude of fraud out there, but much of it could be quashed if the industry would just get together and get some measures put in place. Anybody found guilty of any form of insurance fraud - and I mean intentional fraud, not just insignificant oversights - should be refused any further insurance for life. Driving without cover would then effectively mean that you will never legally drive a car ever again. Two strikes should result in an immediate prison sentence. The practise of fines which add up to less than a year's cover is truly pathetic and needs arresting sooner rather than later.
The same condition should apply to fraudulent injury claims and staged accidents. What would also help is a legal obligation to carry one's driving licence at all times when in charge of a vehicle, and produce it to the other party at the scene of an accident. No licence would mean the police being called, and the popular scam of crashing somebody else's car into innocent road users would become far more likely to result in detection....
Hi, my clutch switch is swinging between my pedals having been disconnected. I know it connects to the top of my pedal but I cant see a 'plug'. What exactly am i looking for? Theres a steel hole/mount that it looks like it could fit, but then the end of the switch will be dangling. Read more
The car was being driven along when the headlights suddenly drained, the battery light started clicking on and off until she eventually died.
We had had the problem the previous day and presumed that a cell had died in the battery. We put a high performance battery into the peugeot from my other car and it seemed to solve the problem. Obviously not!! ... Read more
Bad engine earth?.....
Hi - looking for a bit of advice here - sold a motorhome to a guy a week ago. He came up looked at van took it for 2 test drives - seemed happy - handed over money and took the van away. Guy wasnt sure about way home so we offered to let him following to local motorway services to get him on his way and fuel up. After putting in fuel he mentioned to us that the brakes felt a bit shuddery - we told him that we didnt know of any problems with the brakes, the van had not done a great deals of miles since last MOT and had been sitting for some time but all was ok when passed MOT. Just in case gave the guy our mobile incase of any problems on way home. Guy drove the van 500 miles home, sent and email the next day saying very comfortable van but brakes didnt get any better. Up shot is they are accusing us of selling the van knowing that there was something wrong with it and now want to return it or we send them some money to have the brakes sorted. They have not even had anyone look at the brakes yet. Where do we stand with this - as far as we were concerned the van was fine - my husband was in the motorhome during the 2 test drives and didnt feel any shuddering from the brakes and the guy didnt mention anything then,. If you want to avoid dispute you can always tell him you are not in a position to buy back as you've re-invested the money elsewhere. Advise him to give the van some use and that any issue with rusty pads etc should sort itself out, and failing that he'll just have to fit new ones. He bought a vehicle which he knew had been out of use for some time, it's not a major surprise to have to replace a consumable part. Don't back down, you've done nothing illegitimate. He undertook two test drives, which is at least one more than most people would have, and he agreed to buy it. Matter closed. If he really is 500 miles away he's unlikely to come and bother you with it!
Oil Service of the Nissan Almera N16 should be carried out every 9k and a good quality semi or fully sythentic oil. Personally I use only a high grade fully synthetic oil such as Mobile One or a quality 5w30. There are many makes of oil on the market so check the API / SG rating on the container. Always changed the oil filter together with the sump oil. A tip for you: when you change the oil filter: prime the oil filter with a lick of oil inside the filter to moisten the filter before fitting. As the filter mounts at 90 degrees you can't prime / fill the filter, but the pre-lubrication will assist fast initial start-up. In the workshop we always change the sump washer: the torque is: 25 nm
Failure to change the oil will drastically shorten the life of this well built strong motor and lead to a degree of sludging which in modern close-tolerence designed engines is a bad thing. Get into the habit of checking the rear exhaust of your car to see how it's running: in a well maintained petrol engine it will be fairly clean with very little oil deposits: if the exhaust is very black with alot of oil, it perhaps shows signs of internal engine wear: such as the big end bearings or valve stem seals worn or oil control rings on the pistons. Check this with a trained mechanic or Nissan dealership.... Read more
