Hi, I'm looking to buy a ford fiesta 2008 1.4. I've found one I want to buy & test drove it, all was ok. I went back 3 days later for my wife to test drove it & it struggled to start, on the 3rd attempt it started but loads of white smoke came out of the exhaust! So we left it in tick over for a while & smoke continued to come out. The salesman spoke to the mechanics & they said the vacuum hose was not connected to the air filter that’s why it struggled to start & smoke came out. They had serviced the car. This sounds reasonable but my concern is that I test drove the car for about 15 minutes up to speeds of 80mph so has this caused any long term damage? Also is the mechanics answer true or just sale speak? Thanks Adam Read more

Just imagine if they are that incompetent/could not care less when selling, how bad they will be if you have a problem after buing it....

Not sure about the steering column. Suggest you get hold of a Haynes manual - plenty secondhand on ebay. Wheel bearings - front you'll need a press but rears come complete with the hub. The nut will be very tight, so you will need long bar to remove and torque wrench.

My car was written off by a hit and run lorry as you will read on recent posts. This is a related but seperate issue.

As lorry was driving off I tried to get registration, make, colour. Police have been great, ran a search and informed all details tallied, lorry was insured and notice of prosecution has been served. Full marks to Avon and Somerset Police for all the quick responses.... Read more

Insurers should not be charging extra for this, according to the Association of British Insurers. It was in the news within the last week. Their advice was to take it up with head office if you are charged extra.

Just been into town and driven down a one way street. A cyclist coming towards me on the offside, cuts in front of me to the nearside and goes along the nearside of the car, before cutting back to the offside and riding on the pavement where there are pedestrians.

Nowadays most towns have cctv. I wonder if anything would be done about this larrikin. If all cars had James Bond style machine guns, these acts of stupidity would soon be a thing of the past! Read more

I nearly hit a kid today as he cycled through a red light. My main concern is that, as I'm on a motorcycle I could get hurt by a car driving into the back of me when I brake...

However, I usually prefer cyclists to go through red lights as it gets them out of my way for when the lights change. I am sure people will be just as anoyed if all cyclists waited for the lights to go green....

Dear all

I wonder if you can help me with my car problem. I noticed that when accelerating the car makes a noise like the engine ticking over/'whooshy' if that makes sense. And becomes faster as I accelerate. Present only when accelerating even when parked up. Don't think this sound was there before. Second thing is that when I'm on the motorway and driving at high revs, for a prolonged period, hour or so, it can misfire/judder when driving. Around this time I notice the car struggle a little/it becomes more difficult to accelerate. Feels like I'm not getting as much power as before. This only happens once during my drive (I usually ease off) and it settles down. No lights come on.... Read more

Welcome to the forum.

My Octavia vRS estate has the same standard tyres as your A3 and if you get 16" steel wheels the 205/55/R16 tyres will be just right....
