My car has been damaged. Approved garage assesor valued repairs at approx £1400. I challenged him and said this was excessive. We negotiated and he brought down the cost approx £100. I said no good, the car will be written off at that, and you, the assesor, will not get the repair work.
Assesor the said any competent garage within a couple of miles of my home could repair the car for £300. Sure enough I got an estimate, and not from a back street garage, at below £400... Read more
Colleague's car was hit in the side. Car value £1500 and cost of repair was put at £1500. An obvious write off..............but garage said you have other damage that we can do if you pay £300. Colleague agreed and insurance company authorised the repairs.
Colleague went to collect car, paid £300, and staff went to collect the car from the compound. On the table was the invoice to the insurance company, which my colleague read. The invoice was for £800.... Read more
The insurance company simply did not accept the estimate and cut it back. they do it all the time. What they pay and what the retail customer pays are two different things, Scam no, sharp practise not really. Way of the world.. YES!
Hi Everyone.

Been having a look around and keep coming back to the Octavia - for around £5k which is about the max I'd like to spend you can get a lot of car for the money. We don't need the diesel as if it covered 10k in a year it would be a miracle.
Here's an example t- here are lots of similar examples about....
My 2001 Ford Modeo 2.0 TdDi runs well for 3 or 4 miles than stops. Leaving 10 minutes it them starts again. I have had the ggarade replace all filters etc and the car has been on the computer with nothing showing. I need the car for work and the garage has drawn a blank. any ideas? The car has 78000 miles and until Friday has been faultless with me. Read more
We keep getting told taxes are implimented to discourage us from doing something. Fuel Duty is to discourage us from using cars, VED is to discourage us from having nice cars, plastic bag tax is threatened to put us off buying plastic bags etc so i have a question...
Is income tax designed to discourage people from going to work?... Read more
No it's only the 140bhp Mk 7 and not the 190bhp one.
Hi there,
everythings in order with the fuel lines etc, but surely if there was a problem with fueling and air why would the bike run fine in 1,2,3 gears, thats what I can't get my head around, could the prob be with the spark plugs/coils ??? in 4,5,6 gears the engine would be under more load ???? In 3rd at 14000 rpm I'm doing about 85 mph then changing up to 4th the bike starts being unresponsive and speed wil drop until revs are around 5000 but I can feel the bike wanting to go but just does'nt get there, its weird. Sounds like a problem with the breather hole in the fuel filler cap, or a restriction somewhere in the fuel tap. Is there any crud in the filter bowl? Also, is the intake to the airbox clear & unobstructed?

Hello. Can't find the email address for the moderators. (where is it?) May I ask Avant or any other mod to email me when time permits. I can't access the BR using FireFox. OK with IE (using it now). Can access all other areas of the site. Just get the opening BR page - and sometimes the list of topics but can't get any further.
Many thanks. Read more

hi all,i recently purchased a rover 45,the heaters only blow on cold, ive heard a lot about head gasket troubles but the gasket has been done about a year ago,any suggestions.thanks. Read more
A leaking head gasket can cause the heater not to work as the combustion gasses in the water can cause an air lock but you would also have other symptoms such as the water being ejected from the header tank filler cap and overflow. If you are not loosing water then it could be a fault with your heater, either a defective flow valve or an air control flap, I don't know which system your car uses.

In respect of how you should be dealing with the ins co, can I suggest that rather than phoning all & sundry you follow the complaints procedure that will be detailed in both the policy summary (aka Keyfacts) & the policy documentation.
I'm not saying this to sound patronising but because in most cases the financial ombudsman will not get involved unless you have first pursued your argument via the complaints procedure
