Earlier in the year had a very minor scrape on a roundabout when some one pulled out in front of me and lightly scratched my car, then drove off, but i followed and stopped him, and when he became abusive and HE wanted to go to the local police station, and then in front of a policeman refused to give me his details, (was obliged to) and then 5 months on is claiming for whiplash from an impact speed of 1-2 mph. as above liability is disputed, after investigation my insurance company have rejected the claim (do not consider me at fault) and also added that they will pursue it as a fraudulent claim. but it is worse than watching paint dry, and in between times trying to renew with an outstanding incident is a nightmare. Just trying to get written confirmation of things is almost impossible, and getting them to sort it out is difficult. The difference in premium for me is actually in my favour even with 2 lost years of ncd, ( I have gone elsewhere at renewal and declared the "incident" ) and they would be paying out, so it's their money, not mine, why not defend their client instead of forking out THOUSANDS! This is where an in-car camera is worth its weight in gold.

I have done just that and bought one, cost £30, no gps, but my policeman friend says speed can be pretty well estimated anyway, and in the case of my "incident" would have sorted it out as fast as yours. thanks for the confirmation of my thoughts, It is brilliant....

Take it to a diesel specialist rather than a garage, they usually know what they are doing and are cheaper.

my car sometimes stops whilr driving along normally and would ot restart.few hours later or next morning car starts normally.had a good look at the engine and disconnected and reconnected all the diesel lines.i suspect there was a leak in the fuel feed line, which works by sucking fuel from tank(there is no pump in the tank) and removing and refitting the lines fixed the problem.is there a kit to change the orings in the quick release fuel line connectors?thanks Read more

Hi Injectiondoc, thank you as always for your valued comments.

Times higher educational supplement..Most graduates earn a considerable salary premium over those with two A-levels,

4000 police on the streets of London to marshall another student protest.

Given that the average graduate benefits from a substantially higher salary than the average worker, isn't it time that this priviledged minority ,stopped whining about having to contribute to their education .

Repayments on student loans don't start until they earn a reasonable amount.

How much does the extra policing Of demonstrations cost taxpayers.

I think the way the fees/loans thing has been presented in the media misleads. In reality the repayments work in almost exactly the same way a graduate tax would. There are almost no circumstances, unlike a mortgage or car loan, in which the whole sum can fall due and payable forthwith. But it probably looks and feels like a millstone when you graduate at 21 owing considerably more than my first mortgage. Incidentally, does the amount of loan outstanding have any bearing on the amount of mortgage a first time buyer might get at say 26?

While loans/fees were the glue that held the demo together there’s plenty more for students and wider youth to protest about and quite right that they should do so. The demo passed within a block of where I work. It provided an interesting sideshow (and an opportunity to make sure our business continuity planning was in order)....

My wife's ancient V reg Corsa automatic is pretty reliable for it's age and regularly goes up and down the M1 between Herts and Yorks. About 70k on the clock

Occasionally when engaging reverse it refuses to move without a quick flip on the accelerator after which it performs normally. Unfortunately this is an unwise move in a car park.... Read more

I am still try ing to debug this fault and have been reversing up all the hills in the district this afternoon to get more information.

After engaging reverse, the car will not proceed but just run down the hill. I tried holding the car on the footbrake until there was a noticeable drop in engine speed and a change in the engine noise, Releasing the foot-brake at this point, the car simply reversed up slight hills but not up a very steep one. So I do not think it is so much a worn quadrant as suggested by AHJ but a slow response from the box itself- ? clutch or brake-band slippage? Or could it be a slow valve actuation?...
