insurance- is this a scam ? - danidge

Colleague's car was hit in the side. Car value £1500 and cost of repair was put at £1500. An obvious write off..............but garage said you have other damage that we can do if you pay £300. Colleague agreed and insurance company authorised the repairs.

Colleague went to collect car, paid £300, and staff went to collect the car from the compound. On the table was the invoice to the insurance company, which my colleague read. The invoice was for £800.

Can anyone offer a logical explanation for this?

The insurance company simply did not accept the estimate and cut it back. they do it all the time. What they pay and what the retail customer pays are two different things, Scam no, sharp practise not really. Way of the world.. YES!
