ctiroen xsara picasso 2.0lt hdi - cold starting problem - sherbuttgate

My 2lt hdi citroen xsara picasso is hard to start when amb. temp is cold. The engine has to be cranked over many times before it starts and in extreamly cold conditions it appears to start and run on three cylinders for 5 to10 seconds before running normally. Apart from the bad starting the car runs fine. I have had the car on a main dealers computor and they found no faults, but told me it could be a faulty injector. Can anyone help with this problem

Had it been an XUD engine I would immediatly have said glow plugs but my Hdi starts instantly without giving them time to get hot. It sounds to me as though you have low compression on one cylinder. Its possible that its an injector but that should have shown up on the fault codes and if faulty they often cause knocking when they are running. It might be worth checking the glow plugs though just in case yours is not a naturally good starter.
