...owned the car for 12 years, well maintained, mileage now 147,507. There is no exhaust smoke and no leak under the car when parked but over the past few months it has started using about 1 litre of oil per thousand miles. Space to do this job is very limited,so unless you have multi jointed hands and some spanners with long reach access,then leave it to a pro.
I've got a budget of around £4K-£5K and I'm trying to find something with a nice interior.

Ok - fair enough, didn't manage to find that on the same forum-hope you are handy with a soldering iron! The last car I had this sort of problem with was a Volvo 480 turbo - lovely car -disgraceful, desperately unreliable dashboard electronics - got it working and sold it !
Took me ages to find it, I read if you do solder it yourself it won`t last long,but I like the car so will buy new unit, problem is not that common just annoying, easy to install as well,...

I am looking for some advise about a messy situation I've inadvertently got myself into.
Around 3 Weeks ago I was stopped by the police, it turns unbeknownst to me the insurance had run out on my vehicle. Its due to a chain of regrettable events, my insurance company had contacted me to talk about a renewal, however I had been at work at the time and asked them to call back, they never did. I stupidly assumed it had renewed and carried on, I had completely forgotten that the company had my old address on their records so all correspondence had been sent to them.... Read more
Are your sure your registration document and driving licence have the correct addresses on them?. If so, then I'd just sit and wait.
If either are your old address like your insurance was, then correct them immediately and write to the plod concerned. ...
I don't know about those vans but I can give you some advice. High mileage on a young van is not a bad thing. What I tend to find with vans and probably cars is lots of heavy local use but only average mileage is far more detrimental than a high mileage motorway cruiser.
