Interesting, could be a few caught out!

Sounds like tripe to me.

Sounds like a load of rubbish to me - even if you are not using your phone it could still be sending/recieving data so that wuldnt even prove anything.

I think that tells us all we need to know!

If it works, would it be able to distinguish between a driver texting and a passenger texting?

Sending texts while driving is probably even more dangerous than talking on a hand-held mobile while driving.

Quite apart from the dangers and illegality of using a mobile while driving, I've never even felt the remotest need to use mine while behind the wheel. I can't even see why other people feel it necessary.

Apparently it can only tell the difference between a phone call and texting by the difference in frequency, small as it is

I see drivers texting all the time and with phone in plain sight, I dont think they really care now, they probably do it so often

Like so many things, the current penalties do not deter. I'm sure a £1000 fine or 6 month ban would do the trick! I would argue that texting while driving is at least as dangerous as driving under the influence of alcohol.

Only if offenders believe they will be caught. If that chance is below 5% (I would like to know the real figure) many will take the risk, especially if they think they are in a desperate hurry.

All they have to do is detect mobile phone frequencies coming from a moving vehicle, lock onto the data stream long enough to hack it, then decode enough packets to be able to tell what the suspect is doing.

Unless the radar gun operator is directly behind or alongside the suspect, in which case they might be able to simply observe, I doubt this is practical.

The peril of owning a car you can drive onehanded is you do find yourself doing distracting things, such as flicking through the radio and checking emails when you're creeping at the lights.

I don't text while driving down the motorway or anything, though I regularly see people texting round roundabouts and just toodling along with phone in hand.

2 times out of 3 it's a woman as well. Fact.

I saw a woman yesterday while sitting at a mini roundabout making a cup of something while waiting to go,she had one hand holding the cup on top of steering wheel, the other hand tipping a thermos flask of drink into the cup

I noticed about 1/4 mile traffic behind her, I was pleased I wasnt behind her

What do you mean, Fact ? Do you have published statistics, or is it just an opinion?

Perhaps he has recorded his own observations. Truth doesn't just exist in print or on the internet.

Having said that I can't say I've noticed the pattern. Remarkably few people have two hands on the steering wheel, nervous Nellies (and Neddies) aside, and van drivers especially are commonly on the phone.

For the record, I'm not a nervous Neddy but I do hold the wheel with two hands - I find I drive better that way. If you haven't tried it, you should;)

Every time I go out in the car these one hand drivers abound. They would find it difficult to react quickly in an emergency situation. Besides, having observed drivers who do this I`ve noticed they lean over to steer around sharp bends. This method would probably get tiring on a long journey. Another possibility is that in a collision sufficiently violent to trigger the air bag they could end up with a broken arm at the very least. Having learnt to drive in an era when power steering was unknown,I too use both hands. Driving schools should nip this one hand method in the bud.

They do - it's what people do afterwards that is the problem.

If you drove along in my car holding the wheel with two hands, people would think you've stolen it and are trying to look normal.

It's just not natural to drive such a thing with two hands.

Two fingers is plenty. A two fingered, one footed person could drive it.

Try it:)

Is it one of these?
