Recently purchased a Ford Focus Diesel Estate (TDCi, 2008) and the other day it struggled to start, then a couple of days later it failed to start at all, it was turning over but just wouldn't catch.

Called the RAC and they plugged in the diagnostics and got two error codes surrounding the fuel rail and pump, and said the pressure in the pump was very low. He sprayed some easystart in and got it going, and it ran fine to get me home.... Read more

It is important on a late diesel car for the engine to be cranking at a good speed ,otherwise it will not start. So is the battery up to spec? Also has the fuel filter been changed recently?A blocked filter can prevent adequate fuel pressure .

I'd try get it checked out sooner. If it is a fuel related fault there's a good chance it could wreck the catalyst by continuing to drive it, especially if you're going to cover around 100 miles this week.

I removed the Fuel Sender on this car I have just bought, I completly forgot what position the seal was in! Should it be placed on top of the Tank with the Sender resting on top of it? Or dose the large rubber Seal sit inside the threaded closing ring? thanks in advance.

Railroad.

You may find you'll have to replace the seal because they tend to swell. This makes them quite difficult to re-fit.

Anyone have any thoughts on UKPC parking fines? My vehicle received an PCN from UKPC for parking incorrectly within the markings of the bay. The ticket issued has an illegible Reg’ nbr and the make of vehicle is incorrect. I feel as the car park is free to customers any fine surely must be disproportionate as no losses have been incurred and the sign informing of the penalties for any indiscretion seem surreptitious as the font is so small.

Just remember do not ignore PCN's any more, that used to be the advice but is no longer the correct response...as said, pepipoo is the source for this problem.

If you decide to take your vehicle off the road for one reason or another and park it on somebodies drive or your own. The vehicle must be insured while you own it or declare a SORN on it, in which case you have to store it off the public highway, this does include cul de ssacs as well. I got a £50 fine from the DVLA for it. My car had been parked up for 3 months during a full engine rebuild and i got the fine the day after the tax was due form came through the post, happy christmas DVLA and may all your tickets be big ones. Whether or ot a private road is a public highway seems to be somewhat complicated, one factor being whether it has been used by the public for a period of 20 years.

I was just wondering if any owners out there can either add / dispel or confirm the reviews that I have read.

In the next six months I plan to change my current car and I am quite tempted my the Mirage.... Read more

I'm sure it's not a car for the enthusiast, but it's one of the few small cars which are available as automatics. They don't sell well, because of the poor reviews, so no doubt good discounts can be had.

I know someone who has one: she's 80 and doesn't go far, but her husband has had a string of Mitsubishis and got her a Mirage to replace a faithful 15-year-old Nissan Almera. If you're not looking for excitement and can get a good deal, it's worth considering.
