Hi there, hope you can shed some light on this for me. My car just cut out on me and wouldnt start. I am not getting any engine management light on the dash, I have checked for error codes, with code reader, and found none. car cranks, I have fuel coming up to filter all fuses are fine. All relays appear to be fine but cant find engine control relay anywhere. I have been told it is relay 109 but no such relay is visible. Does this relay go by any other numbers?

Hi All

I received a PCN in February this year. I made an informal appeal, was decline as usual. Then I moved out of my place into a provisional one. Appealed again, similar answer, ignoring my grounds of appeal.... Read more

You did not state your good grounds of appeal. As the appeal has been rejected by them twice, how good is it?

If it's not any good you might be better coughing up as with court costs and bailiffe fees it's gonna go up

Hello,
I have a 2008 Golf V with the common Teves Mk60 ABS/ESP problem. The local dealer has identified that the unit needs to be replaced.
I have read this forum and found that this has been a known fault for some time. I live in Norway and this takes place in Norway. Searcing the web I can not find similar issues in Norway. The dealer, and the Norwegian importer, both tells med that i will have to pay 8-9000 NOK, about £800 for this. Before doing that I would very much appreciate any respons as to how this has been handled in other countries than UK, if anyone have this knowledge. Read more

If the problem relates to a pressure sensor fault with the abs unit, then VW offer a repair kit for around £175 .Then labour of around 2 hours to fit the part and bleed the hydraulics.

I am getting mixed messages from car dealers. Kia dealer says 7 year warrenty ONLY applies if stamp in book says KIA dealer on it.

Several other dealers, offering 2nd hand kia's with "full service history" claim any VAT registered garage stamp WILL be accepted for Kia warranty purposes.... Read more

Hi all, new to the forum as I just bought a chevy Tacuma, though payment hasn't yet went through.

It has a soot and oily build up at the part shown in the photo. Does this mean the gasket has gone, is it okay to drive and could there be a bigger problem going on?... Read more

Hi, thanks for the reply. Turns out to be a weeping from the valve cover and will cost about £125 to repair. After saying they would fix the problem, the seller has now said they won't and wants the car back but will refund as my payment has now cleared.

Annoying as I want the car but feel they should fix it as they sold it claiming it had been checked over by a local garage last week and there were no issues whatsoever. Then of course they agreed to repair it only to then renege on that agreement....

Hello,

I recently purchased a low mileage (48k) 2005 Peugeot 407 SW 2.0HDi 136 Auto (4 speed) on a 54 plate with FSH.

I do quite a lot of miles and noticed in the first week that the fuel guage was going down pretty quick, despite the fact that the onboard computer was reading 45mpg. When I manually calculated the MPG it came out as an abysmal 27mpg. The second tank came back as 28mpg and the third 30mpg.

I've taken it to an independent garage and they couldn't find anything wrong. No fuel leaks, no diagnostic errors. It was fully serviced after the second tank of fuel, but the fuel economy has not really improved as the third tank where I got only 30mpg included a long trip, including motorway from Shrewsbury to Banbury.

The mechanic said it might be the diesel particulate filter (DPF) that is to blame.

Shouldn't a blocked DPF throw up an error?
Would a blocked DPF not allow the onboard computer to calculate the MPG correctly?

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Anyone else experienced this? Absolutely love the car, but I only got it as I needed better fuel economy than the 29mpg I was getting from my V6 Rover 75!

Thank you

The on board computer doesn't actually measure how much fuel is being used, since fuel doesn't actually pass through it. So in effect it takes an educated guess. It continuosly monitors the fuel level in the tank and makes a calculation of fuel consumption based the information received from various sensors around the engine. You may notice that the fuel remaining indicator also doesn't exactly follow the miles covered either. It's sometimes possible to recalibrate the trip computer albeit with suitable specialist equipment.

Hi,

I do about 12k miles anually. About 6k is covered on the A-roads of North and East London (A406/A12) and do end up sitting in traffic quite often. About 2k is covered locally in shopping trips, etc., and the rest is on the motorway thrashes. ... Read more

I did something similar to this last year when my Honda Civic was written off. With a budget of under £4K I decided to stick to Japanese petrol, and got a Honda Accord 04 Estate Executive (Leather etc) 2 litre petrol manual 60K on the clock and clean HP check. Two owners, full service history, previous owning having kept it for 8 years. All four tyres the same brand (Conti) a good sign.

Well I had kept a balance of £1K for repairs etc and needed it. Tyres, brakepads and brake disks (consumables) needed to be done. Unfortunately a brakehose had degraded, a fact only discovered after the second set of brake disks and pads had been trashed. The motor for the powered tailgate died of exhaustion (it is heavy). Rather than pay Honda £1K to fix it, I got an auto-electrician to disable the sensor that prevent me from manually opening the hatch for £150. I will need to employ him again, as there is a fault in the wiring which means that full beam driver side does not work....
