Fiat Ducato / Iveco Daily - Buying an LWB van ? - JSpencer

Hello everyone,

I know this is forum is more about cars but maybe you can help.

I've driven several makes of vans which I've rented so never really been able to form much of an opinion about them.

I'd like to buy an lwb or xlwb wheelbase van at least L4 H2 but it has to come under 3.5 tonnes as I don't have a larger licence (so I don't think I can do L5 H3). My budget is around £4000, £5k at a push.

I don't care too much for inside comfort etc. really more about space, reliabilty and fuel economy, as i may occasionally be doing 1000 mile runs across Europe. I should note I will not be carrying anything tremendously heavy, usually just furniture.

Having said the above I've been looking at Fiat Ducato Maxi's and Iveco Daily's (particularly the 35S12).

The Iveco daily looks very attractive to me including price wise, however I have heard just terrible reviews about them particularly about reliability which strikes me as odd given they use the same Fiat engine.

If anyone could advise me further would be much appreciated. Thanks

Regards

Joe

I don't know about those vans but I can give you some advice. High mileage on a young van is not a bad thing. What I tend to find with vans and probably cars is lots of heavy local use but only average mileage is far more detrimental than a high mileage motorway cruiser.
