Hi all, we have an issue with our Ford Ka - no spare wheel supplied with the car!
We've looked on the official Ford parts website and £158 seems very steep for a 14" spare wheel and tyre...... Read more

I have an Audi A4 2.0 tdi 58 plate (2008) standard uk spec. My engine management light came on and I've been told the code means I need a new G450 DPF Sensor. I'll have this fitted later in the week but what I would like to know is will the DPF just continue to get clogged up if I continue driving or will the normal burn off still occur if I am doing only motorway miles at high speed? I think this may be called "passive regen" where the burn off will occur by default if I get sufficient temperature build up. But I am unsure if a faulty sensor will also stop this auto burn off from occurring. I am assuming the active regen which the car would almost certainly use the sensor for will not currently be working if the sensor is faulty. The dpf light has not come on at any point. It is only the engine management light that is on. Read more
There are two pressure sensors, each with a pipe connected to either side of the DPF. The ECU is monitoring the two and comparing the readings. Similar readings indicated a clear DPF, while different readings mean it's blocked. If the small pipes become blocked or damaged then the ECU will may not be able to read anything at all and so in that case a sensor fault will flag up. This doesn't necessarily mean the sensor is faulty, it simply means the ECU isn't receiving anything from it. As a previous poster has said, I'm sure your garage has checked this though.
Hi guys ,I am a new CR-V owner and have recently found that i have a 4wd system on the car, can anyone explain how this work or can be turned on, thank you :) Read more
Change the dual pump II rear diff fluid about every 30K miles. (only available from Honda) it usually takes just over a litre. If it's an auto then it's worth doing a transmission fluid drain and refill every second oil change - only 2.2 of the 10ish litres will come out when you remove the drain plug hence the requirement to perform regular changes. There are no serviceable filters in CR-V auto transmissions so this is why swarf removal through regular fluid changes is vital.
Many, many CR-V autos suffer from vibration at 30-45mph under light load when the torque converter locks up - this is due to clutch damage from neglected transmission fluid changes. If the shudder disappears after the fluid change then get rid of the car quick! You’ll notice the shudder disappears when you lift off the throttle and reapply it.
Again it's a Honda-only fluid - but Carlube do a compatible fluid called ATF-U which is widely available at GSF....
Hi all,
got a 1.4 Corsa Design. Checking my lights, I see that the rear fog only comes on, on the driver's side, although there's a bulb in place on the other side for a fog. I tested this other bulb and it's ok. So I thought maybe I've got a wiring problem........ Read more

Please help. Got this car s/h at christmas and its started playing up. Within a couple of miles from home, after coasting, you put your foot down and its lost power. Stopping and putting it into neutral, the engine slowly revs to 2800rpm and stays there. If you stop the engine and restart, its fine - indicating something electrical. But there are no warning lights illuminated. Economy on the coimputer also drops markedly when the loss of power occurs.
Its also developed a resonance under power at 1500rpm since they looked athe EGR valve - which they said was fine.... Read more
Thanks for the feedback on this one - not often we hear the outcome of someone's issues.
Well done to the dealer who sorted it!
Morning all,
My work colleagues wife has a vw CC, 2012, I think. They both went out driving and he moved the seat back so he could drive her car. Now the seat won't move back or forward. He says he can see three pins moving when he uses the lever but nothing happens. Any ideas please.
Many thanks
Pablo

Thanks for the update Pablo and well done.
A task for your mate, i suggest he writes a polite letter to the dealer principal of the VW showroom of doom in question, thanking them for their customer no service and politely asking them to remove the car and customer in question from their database, permanently, along with the information that they will never have to worry about your mate having to darken their doorstep again....
Hi,
I am buying a 2010 vauxhall insignia diesel on 42,000 miles from a private seller
I have had the AA check the car and they have brought this to my attention:
Gearbox operation/noise -
Final drive operation/noise - An excessive whining noise was evident from the transmission when in first and second gears at the time of road test. Would advise immediate investigation in this area as this could prove costly to repair.
Could you please advise if u think this is an easy fix and fairly cheap or a full gear box and expensive. Could you please provide a guess at price.
Thank you Read more

There are thousands of these things for sale why on earth buy one with known faults I agree with GB ,what if it needs a gearbox is the seller going to pay for it bearin.g in mind a new clutch when the box is out.The repair bill could cost more than the car is worth in the trade walk away and find another....
2007 Focus with 92000 on clock. Engine System Fault showed glow plug circuit. Garage checked glowplugs and found all four were faulty. Took out 3 of 4 but Number 4 siezed in head. Tried soaking overnight but snapped off next morning when further attempt to extract. Special tool still could not extract remains so garage now saying they need to remove head and drill out.
Is there any other way to fix this without removing the head?... Read more
Interesting reply, Yesterday I noticed that the glow plug icon dissapeared in under a second; temp outside was cool. Today I forgot to look this morning when it was cold, and this afternoon I didn't even see it at all.
Just bought a Focus 2005 II Hatchback 1.6 TDCi 110cv. 240000kms. My problem is rough starting and lots of blue smoke on startup. It dissapears within 10 seconds and then the engine runs smoother. Slight tapping like valve adjustment on gasoline engine. I assumed it was a glow plug problem. I haven't made the continuity test with a battery and digital tester yet, because I thought it might be a problem with the electrical system not providing juice to the plugs. But after reading this I'm sort of stumped. The only reason why I'm writing this here is because getting to the plugs is sort of a pain.......
I do 6k miles a year (mainly 6-mile journeys @ 30 mph) and until very recently would have never considered a diesel. However, I've come across a number of HJ comments (see links below) reassuring potential buyers that the new Mazda 2.2 Skyactiv diesel engine should not suffer DPF problems thanks to its exhaust manifold in head configuration. I have a choice between an automatic 120 PS petrol Mazda 3 2014 and a manual 2.2 150 PS diesel. The cost is about the same but the petrol comes with leather interior. I expect the diesel to be worth about 30% more than the petrol when I come to sell it in ~8 years time. Am I mad to be considering the diesel given my low mileage or do you agree with HJ's positive perception of the engine?
So what does it mean, as you seem to think you know more about my car than myself.
According to the manual you posted the link to it means (in Mazda's words):...
I was getting quotes of £55 to refurb the wheels on my wifes mini - I didn't bother in the end as I could get good quality wheels with brand new tyres on for around £105 each so I'm just going to wait until the tyres need replacing and do the lot!
