Hi - mine is a 2008 model, a4 avant 2litre diesel. All running fine and done 75k miles. Cambelt was changed last week and the guy said there was a dent in the fuel tank, not huige but it had been mishaped. He suggests it may be a blocked breather. This would mean having a whole new fuel tank at £1100 inc labour,. I cannot understand why just a new breather is possible but Audi say it is not. I can live with a slight dent in the fuel tank as it still takes over 80 quid to fill it!! so the dent is not that big. My concern is if the fuel tank continues to shrink which i will recognise, but what about if it shrinks so quickly that the fuel cannot be sent to the engine - - i dont want to cut out on the motorway!! Any suggestions?? Read more

Yes, you don't see many vehicles these days with an old rag sticking out of the filler ... :-)

On Saturday I had a slightly worrying experience with my 2012 13k mile Mazda 3.

Suddenly the engine maintainence light and ABS warning light came on and the car was barely drivable.... Read more

All the posts on this thread brings it home that gone are the days of trouble with the points or plugs or carb or many other mechanical issues. Nowerdays it's ECU or DPF or any other combinations of the alphabet you care to mention. This is all down to progress, improving MPG, emissions, performance and reliability. This is brilliant til it goes wrong and then you realise that the problem is way beyond the home mechanic. Sometime it even beats the franchise mechanics, if there computer doesn't tell them what's wrong they have lost the ability to fault find the "old fashioned" way. This is the price we have to pay for progress. At the end of the day the modern cars are more reliable than their predessors.

My bmw was stolen we returned the keys to aviva who lost them then found them and after 9 months are saying the keys show the vehicle was driven 12 and 15 days after the reported theft.we know this is false but don't know where to go next. Read more

You can google plus I had a friend who's BMW was stolen in this very way, It's seams there is a way that an electronic device can be hooked up and used produce a replacement key. So thats how they did it.

In the past I have had BMW's and some dealer taken my key to get service info including milage etc. So i guess this is updated with date time every time you use the key....

Hi All,

Apologies in advance for the stupid question - but what's the difference between an air conditioning recharge and air conditioning regas? Are they pretty much the same thing?...

It's not that long ago 15.5s would have been average saloon car territory.

Without testing a well run in example it might be difficult to judge real performance on the road, but is the only test that counts. My guess is that it might need a gear dropped now and thn for overtake but that this car will be fine for normal use, even on the Motorway or hussled alongg on A roads. ...

Most cars now seem to come with either a default of super low profile tyres or an option of them. I for one prefer tall sidewall comfy ride types.

Am I alone in prefering a nice ride rather than wanting a set of Carlos Fandango's fitted?... Read more

It's the suspension setup, not the tyres. My wife's Corsa (pretty basic spec) has 185/70 R14. Not a low proifle thingy, if you ask me. And? Well, it barely makes it. It's just stiff and that's that. Now, my sister's Chevrolet Aveo (again pretty basic spec) with 195/55 R15, that's a different story. Nice, soft, wallowy suspension, much much much more comfortable that the Corsa's. Lower profile, but different setup, and that's the answer.

Or a Merc, E-class, model year 2005 or 2006, I guess with 225/55 R16. Again, much more comfy than a BMW 5 (previous model, so similar model year).
