RIDDLE ME THIS. There is a branch of "The Range" in St Helens, Lancashire, which used to be a Tesco and has a very big car park. It has been abused by shoppers lately and especially by people leaving their cars there all day when they go to work, or just to avoid the ludicrous parking restrictions in the town. Anyway, two or three weeks ago it was my last day before going on my hols and I was wizzing round the shops, and my list did include stuff from Range, but in truth I forgot to go in. The car was parked about 45 minutes, but let's say for the sake of argument it was over one hour.
I had heard rumours of some "lads" in a white van parked up there watching for people taking advantage, but I found out for myself when I noticed a parking charge notice on the windscreen. They had craftily and carefully placed it over the tax disc so I didn't notice it straight away. I guess the reasoning was that if I HAD seen it I would have gone in the shop and therefore not be a car park "abuser", as the notices do say you are allowed 2 hours parking. I will swear on a stack of bibles that I was not there anywhere near that length of time.... Read more
Hi there,
My Corsa recently failed its MOT, due to a 'significant L - R imbalance' on the rear brakes. Apparently this could be a brake compensator valve, or possibly the master cylinder. I was surprised to hear that it could be the master cylinder, as I thought that supplied hydraulic pressure to the entire system, the distribution to individual wheels being undertaken by the proportioning/compensator valves or whatever?... Hello
Did you solve your problem, what was the cause of the braking imbalance?...
My 2006 1.6 petrol 307 has a wet Passenger footwell. I noticed it a few months ago and put it down to all the bad weather we have had. I hoovered out today and it's still wet, when I ribbed my hand on it the liquid was not water and looked like a fine oil. The brakes have been changed recently, but after the first time I noticed it was wet. Any ideas? Read more
On my old car, my footwell was full of anti freeze, the guy in the garage actually tasted it on his finger!! :-( he put something in the radiator that filled any holes, it worked for me
If that is the cause, it sounds as if the heater matrix may be leaking, especially if the coolant has never been changed. Has the coolant level dropped?
I recently replaced a 110K 03 plate CRV with an 07 plate (same model) with 58,000 miles on the clock.
It potters around town perfectly but on the open road and motorway when accelerating it has a quite viloent shake between 45 and 65 MPH.... Read more

Hi all,
got a 1.4 Corsa Design. Checking my lights, I see that the rear fog only comes on, on the driver's side, although there's a bulb in place on the other side for a fog. I tested this other bulb and it's ok. So I thought maybe I've got a wiring problem........ Read more

I brought a new Citroenn Nemo Van just over 3 years ago, it is fitted with the 1400 HDI engine which has recently ceased, causing catastrophic engine failure. The Nemo has only done 24,000 miles and has been fully serviced. It was called in on one of its three recalls, 18 months ago, for new big end conrod bearing shells. The work was carried out at an authorised Citroen dealer. This all happened 4 months ago, and as yet, neither the garage or Citroen UK have made any attempt to help, even though this is obviously a problem with this engine. I know I'm not the only person who has experienced this problem, as several other forums have proved, but I wonder whether anyone has ever had any luck getting any help at all out of Citroen. I have now put it in the hands of the Financial Ombudsman to try and push Citroen to do the right thing, and if they do I will let everyone know. Any comments welcome Read more
Unless the vehicle was bought directly from Citroen UK - which is doubtful, the OP has no claim on Citroen UK, I don't understand the reference to the Financial Ombudsman - how do they get involved in the implemetation of the SOGA as applied to motor vehicles?
Morning all,
My work colleagues wife has a vw CC, 2012, I think. They both went out driving and he moved the seat back so he could drive her car. Now the seat won't move back or forward. He says he can see three pins moving when he uses the lever but nothing happens. Any ideas please.
Many thanks
Pablo

Thanks for the update Pablo and well done.
A task for your mate, i suggest he writes a polite letter to the dealer principal of the VW showroom of doom in question, thanking them for their customer no service and politely asking them to remove the car and customer in question from their database, permanently, along with the information that they will never have to worry about your mate having to darken their doorstep again....

All,
I bought a Peugeot 407 HDi 2.0 estate from an independent car dealer 2 days ago. It's 8 years old with FSH and only 42k on the clock.
Car was fine when I test drove it. I did notice the engine was warm when I inspected it (before I test drove it!), but otherwise everything seemed fine so I bought it. MOT was only 2 months ago. Later that day I drove it again and all was fine. I put about 40 miles on it in total.
Yesterday, I had real trouble starting it. I finally got it started, but engine didn't sound happy, and the car was shaking a bit. Thick white smoke was coming out of the exhaust. (Definitely smoke, not steam -- or maybe both, for all I know.) I turned it off after a few seconds as my kids were in the car.
Phoned dealer, who told me that this was common with diesels, and to run it for a few minutes. I was sceptical, but did so anyway. Continued to pour thick white smoke out of the exhaust for several minutes.
Today, the same thing happened. I phoned him again. He says again this is common with diesels, and suggests I change the battery!
I know nothing about diesels having never owned one. But white smoke has nothing to do with a weak battery, does it? Can someone confirm this before I talk to him (or write to him) again? I'm obviously reluctant to drive the car unneccessarily in this state to warm it up, which is what he suggests.
Next step would be to demand he diagnoses and repairs it (or pays for someone else to do so)? Sale of Goods Act seems to be on my side here. I paid nearly 5k for it, so it shouldn't be doing this.
Many thanks in advance for any help.

Very good news. If you liked the 407 you could consider the petrol model, from my experience its less troublesome that the diesel equivalent. The only downside is its heavy and drinks fuel and costs a fortune to tax.

End ot thread. It's descended to insults and is no longer serving any useful purpose.
Parking charges/ penalties are something of a legal minefield and should be left to the experts.
