Not enjoyed driving in the past 15 months or so,

Couple of "stress" factors healthwise (minor I hasten to add) (but including severe food poisoning) and the utter hell of 2 months in london last year, got my first speeding ticket but allowed to take the speed awareness course, and today, received a fpn for going in a bus lane. Have not disputed, £30 for prompt payment, but wondering if i should just not get a bus pass and let others take the strain. Only problem is tha SWMBO does not "do" public transport. Looking for a house within walking distance of her new job, easier said than done.... Read more

Just imagine if there were the routine delays on trains that there are on our roads! All hell would break lose with "something must be done-ites".

Took my Nov-10 E250 diesel estate to M-B dealer for B3 / 60,000 miles service today. Received a telephone call within half an hour to tell me the technician had put it on the ramp and heard a noise from the bottom of the engine. Said the plastic sump was vibrating and they needed to dismantle to investigate. Said they had never come across this before and didn't know what it could be. I took a look while it was on the ramp and it is vibrating.. Want about 4 hours labour + cost of parts to diagnose and rectify on top of £450 for service. I said I wanted to take the car away and get a second opinion first. Has anyone had a similar experience or any idea of what this problem (if there is one) might be. The car runs and accelerates perfectly and I've never noticed any noise before. Needless to say the manufacturer's warranty ran out 4 months ago and chances of Mercedes or the dealership picking up the tab are slim to none. The car has full M-B service history. Read more

Are you sure this is a problem? Maybe this vibration is "normal", but not well known - as a result the uninitiated might think it's a problem (or the unscrupilous might present it as a problem to gain work changing the sump pan).

Disco II sump pans were made of a composite material in order to damp out vibrations and reduce noise that would be a problem if a plain steel sump were fitted. I mention this only to illustrate that manufacturers are aware of this as an issue. I feel sure MBs development teams will have made a careful decision regarding the type of sump pan required. Hence, it may well vibrate but it may not be a problem....

If it's a dealer then I guess the car is less than 5yrs with full service history. In that case you could get the HP company to contribute or a good will from Audi.

My partner's been offered a job just outside Truro and as it's almost too good to turn down so we're giving it serious thought.

We've been sent an information pack that had this in it http://www.millercountrywide.co.uk/forsaleoffice/Falmouth/1026 and I remember going on holiday to Falmouth when I was a kid but apart from that I don't know much more about the area.... Read more

I suggest you use Zoopla. A quick search for "Falmouth" gives properties ranging from £85,000 (one-bed flat) to £995,000 (five-bed house) in Falmouth itself. Over three pages of properties below £200,000.

Equivalent for "Truro" gives £68,000 to £895,000. Again, over three pages below £200,000....

Like the previous 405 and 406 models I have owned this 308 has very vulnerable wing mirrors, my garage entrance is offset to the drive and not too easy to get in and out of but I do take great care having knocked a few mirrors off in the past.

I recently aquired the 308 and unfortunately caught the nearside mirror when reversing , they used to call these spring back mirrors but they don't spring back and certainly don't move forward if you catch one when reversing. No complaints I should be more careful, but the frustrating thing is that nowadays they do not seem to sell any of the components separately as they use to do years ago as you often only required one part of the assembly to make a repair and of course saving a great deal of cost...... Happy Blue!

Stupid mistake. Came home yesterday from a holiday with a petrol rental car. Long day (getting up at 0130 UK time) and getting to bed at 22.30.

Went to get fuel just now and put 62l of unleaded into the S-Max which has the TDCi engine. Drove 0.5 mile and engine cut out. I knew as soon as it happened what I had done. RAC coming to the rescue at a cost of £199. ... Read more

Happy Blue!

They did recommend changing the filter. As the car is due a service within the next month, then it will be done then.

The RAC man sucked all the fuel out of the tank, even wiggling the fairly narrow pipe around to suck all the puddles up in the tank and sucked more fuel out of the system via a connection under the bonnet. Having put in about 10 litres of diesel he then sucked some of that through as well, so that when the car was started, pure diesel hit the pumps as soon as possible. It worked as the car started within a couple of seconds of the key turning and has been fine ever since....
