Thanks a bundle Trilogy, me eyes are only just recovering from last nights apparitions and this isn't helping.

Not to say i don't admire the work thats gone into it, but why, and i'm staggered that one would be worth more that its scrap weight when done, but people are strange, they're now paying VW camper money (more weirdness) for rusting mk1 and 2 Escort hulks, weird stuff this ''scene'' fad....

Hi all,
Can anyone help me with my heater problem on my 2001 ford focus.
Last week smoke came from vents so pulled over and realised that 123 on the heater switch didn't work but 4 did.
I was told it would be the heater resistor fuse gone so I purchased a new one and fitted it into the fuse block behind the glovebox,I left it out to test if everything was ok before securing it and when I started the engine I noticed that black smoke was coming from the resistor fuse block, this was new so have removed the resistor and am now perplexed as to why this is happening.
Hope someone can enlighten me many thanks all.
Adrian. Read more

Hi, I've recently had a new dual mass flywheel and clutch fitted by a local garage and since then the car tends to miss a beat and sounds like diesel knock ( intermittent ). The car starts and runs, idles without a flicker, then when pulling away I start experiencing the stutter.
It shows no warning lights and has been back to the garage twice and shows no fault codes. This stutter occurs at all speeds.
Any ideas and possible solutions gratefully received. Read more

One mechanic asked what diesel I was using, my reply was the regular brand from either of local superstore. His advice was to run the engine to near empty and try the more expensive branded diesel, since following that advice it's like driving a different car. He thinks that regular diesel has more bio products added to reduce immisions and that hdi's don't particularly behave with it. Saved me a bill for new injectors.

If using a different fuel made that much difference I would guess that a generous shot of diesel conditioner (injector cleaner) would too. I can usually feel a better 'throttle' response after putting it in my 207. I don't usually put in supermarket fuel, but SWMBO does.

Thought I'd dip my noobie toe in the water.

Its darn difficult to choose a new car these days. We're currently looking to replace our "fun" ride, a Mini Cooper S, which after 7 years is starting to have too many (minor) problems cropping up to stay. We've been looking at the sector and settled on a choice of 3 models (not necessarily the obvious ones).... Read more

I'd can the Abarth on the basis that my wife's 500 doesn't suit me. Shame really as an Abarth does appeal and looks ok when a bloke gets out of the drivers side. Huge blindspot at the extra thick C pillar and a sticky out moulded plastic handle on the lower console/tunnel affair thing that sticks in your left leg when you try to rest it. The teeth rattling ride, rubbish semi auto, lousy dealers and Fiat UK not knowing how a warranty should work all helped us get rid. In 3 to 6 months SWMBO will need a car again - I'm trying to persuade her towards a Mito.

At very low speeds, that is below 30 mpg and usually when I have taken the foot of the accelerator pedal, I get an intermittent low rubbing noise that sounds like a belt rubbing perhaps?

Car mileage is 98500.... Read more

My st220 on start up the revs are fine idle about 1000 but after 1 minute drops to 800 and then moves between 1000 and 800 constantly the battery light flickers on and off it seems to be losing power as the dash lights also dim when this is going on. Is this the alternator ? Or something else and are there any remedies that I can do it's also bank holiday so no garages are open. Help is needed please! Read more

If the idle speed is unstable,i would suggest you look for split or broken breather pipes. There are a few under the throttle housing and some at the back of the engine. They are made of plastic and rubber and become brittle with age.Don't think it will be the alternator.

By chance I got a look at the analyser screen when I was in for my half year vehicle inspection here in Taiwan. 4.7 % CO, 7.2% CO2, IIRC. Didn't see the HC but presumably high (They don't give you a printout, probably the thinking is "no numbers, no pack drill" ). ... Read more

When injectors are serviced,it is normal to run a pressure check on them to ensure they don't leak!
