Hi All,

My Audi is coming to the end of manufacturer's warranty of 3 years (End of this month)

It has done about 31215 miles so far and I forecast less than 6000 miles per annum

My quote with Audi for an extended warranty comes to £512 (0 Excess, Comprehensive, Without Roadside assistance)

But wanted to take a general opinion of other Audi owners you had gone through the situation and know better - Is there any common red flags with Audi A4 2011 2.0 TDI 143 hp CVT (Automatic) that its better to cover with the warranty (For the miles I am forecasting and the miles the car has done so far)

So far - My car has been maintained according to the Audi schedule and recently undergone MOT (Mar-2014) and a Full service / Oil change as a part of my service plan

Any advice would be great

Thanks

Hi folks, im new to here so apologies if I do something wrong.

I currently own a 2009 ford focus 1.8 tdci zetec. I have an alarming and very loud droning sound from the drivers side whenever turning right. I have so far replaced the front and rear right hand side wheel bearings and drivers side drive shaft, all new parts i hasten to add.
I have also swapped the tyres from left to right incase it was one of those. However, the noise is still there! Just as loud as before.

Just wondering if anyone has any idea what else this could be?

Thanks in advance Read more

Its always been my experience that if one bearing is worn and noisy, the other side wont be far behind

I have always found that when replacing the side that isnt noisy ie the good one (or so it seemed) actually had a fair bit of play in it and dry,so was in need of replacing...

my van is pulling oil from oil tank through fuel filter leaving no oil not using diesel at all Read more

This is all I can say as I am not a mechanic and have no idea what to do now.

Find a garage that tells the truth and can diagnose issues. There is no way diesel can get into the fuel filter unless someone has disconnected the fuel tank and connected the fuel pipes (and pump) to the sump. On every car ever made there is no connection between the sump and the fuel tank....

Please can anyone tell me if the brake pushback tool with right hand thread available at Halfords will do both sides of the vehicle as I have heard some cars have left hand thread on the near side, thanks, Mike. Read more

And while on the Bay, aquire yourself the Gospel according to Haynes, within which you will find all the answers.

I have one of those kits. It's good. And my Haynes for my car is specific about the thread direction.

I have been told pushing the slave cylinder back with a G clamp can invert the rubbers in the master cylinder and contaminate the ABS system. If I clamp the brake pipe and open the bleed nipple a little and push the cylinder back, will I have to bleed the system after fitting the pads. Anyone know the correct procedure for this job ? Cyd

I've always clamped the pipe and opened the bleed nipple. I've also always bled the brakes whenever changing pads. It's the fluid in the pipe that will be most contaminated, especially with water vapour which passes through hoses (though less so these days with improvements in materials).

Quite right. The only thing I know about economics is that the right price for something is what some other poor sap will pay.

Because enough people want to be seen in a Mini and will therefore pay a lot of money for a used one - whether or not it's reliable - it's at the top of the table that Auristocrat has found for us. Generally, I suppose that the nearer a make is to the top of that table, the better it is to buy it new, and the ones near the bottom should be bought secondhand.

I'm working on a new series for Channel 5 called 'Angry Britain' which is produced by Mentorn Media (www.mentorn.tv). We want to explore what makes us angry and do this by looking at various topical issues. Each programme will feature a number of different issues with various clips, contributors and interviews.

One of the episodes I'm working on is all about traffic/road incidents and I am particularly looking for stories about parking disputes. The series is based around self-shot footage so videos would be needed to make the story work.

This question from HJ's Telegraph column made me sn*****, but then I realised that perhaps it crystallises the way that many car purchasers think:

Audi driver? Not yet but I've placed an order for one, hence my (tongue in cheek?) response, then of course I'd already sussed that they had Skoda ...

Every comment I write on here is IN MY OPINION - that surely goes without saying doesn't it. Take it/them or leave them with a pinch of salt as I do for the majority of questions/responses.

I'm at liberty to say that I think that Clarkson is a t*&* just as he's at liberty to say that I'm one. However, he's unaware that I exist, whereas I'm vaguely aware that he does.

Every post of this nature is a 'chip-paper' observation, in as much as I've generally forgotten about it the following day and moved-on. Throwaway comments for a throwaway page of an exceedingly good & informative website - the flip(pant) side if you like?

I could go on for ages but I've got a shed to paint ,,, ...and don't get me started on the garbage served up on TV these days!!!

Have a nice day now Mr Snake ...

In this age of IT, skype and videoconferencing I wonder why there is still so much 'one- bod-plus-ton-of-metal' travelling? As someone whose ' work' involves constant mental challenge, the idea of spending paid worktime cruising the roads of the UK in a comfortable modern car is appealing. It must be even more relaxing spent stationary in jams listening to the radio.

The cost is enormous. Say 20,000m at avr 50mph = 400 person hours at say £10 per hour, plus, say, 30p per mile is a five figure sum! Read more

.......... you can still earn a lot of money for driving.

Many thanks for this interesting debate and apologies for not responding - been on holiday using IT as little as possible! Clearly it is almost impossible to quantify money 'earned' while driving during working hours. There is some evidence to suggest that working from home on occasion is more productive than the 'office martyr' so brilliantly described above. I take issue with the derogatory references to public sector workers, though. My experience of the reception and working areas of the 'public' national health and education services contrasts sharply with the blissful calm and quiet to be found in those of, say, the 'private' national legal and banking services....
