In March i wrote a review on this garage which had given me very poor service resulting in me having to remove my car as it still had not been repaired after being with them for 4.5 weeks.

I have found this review has been taken down with no notice to me or any questions asked... Read more

I have a 2005 MG ZT-T td 130 from new with 69,000 miles and until the last 3,000 or so the temperature guage has always read on the middle bar on the guage for all types of driving - Howver, once warm it tends to remain on the middle bar for normal driving but at motorway cruiing speed it dips to 1 bar below and remains consistant, moving back to the middle bar and never higher when back to slow speeds. Fuel consumption remains mid to high 40's and coolant level is correct with no leaks. This would appear to be logical but why the fluctuation after this time and should I be concerned ?! Read more

There is a test mode you can put the dash in to read off the exact temperature

I have had a blanking plate with a hole in on my EGR for the last year or so, I recently found out that the car is a euro 3 which means I can use a full blanking plate without the car showing the EML light.

Last night the car was running fine until changed the blanking plate and now I have hesitation when driving/accelerating under 2500rpm, when above there is no hesitation.... Read more

The condition you are describing is not a fault. The ECU is deliberately reducing engine power to maintain the correct emission levels. It's doing this because it cannot now detect any reduction in air flow across the MAF when the EGR valve is commanded to open. It therefore assumes there is no EGR, which of course there isn't because you've blanked it off. The only way you're going to get around this is to alter the program of the ECU to expect more air flow before it opens the EGR valve. This will have the effect of opening the EGR valve less or even not at all. Blanking it and doing nothing else is not an option on a modern engine designed to meet the latest tier four emission requirements.

I drive a Audi A41.9 TDI, 55plate, Automatic, from new running at 187K, with 90% motorway mileage in past 4 years (did 100K in 4 years).

Runs well but has been bit expensive with 1K repair each year at least and change of tyres... Read more

That's p1$$ poor economy from a diesel - unless you're driving "flat" most of the time.

I have a Saab 9-3 Aero 2.0T with a Maptun tune to 255PS/360Nm. About the same size as your A4, but probably heavier at 1625Kg and running economy sapping 235/45/17 tyres. On my 45 mile each way commute I cruise at a steady 67 ish and get 42mpg. If I drop to 55, it goes up to around 50mpg and if I up to about 77 I still get 34-36mpg. If I hoof it about at 90+ it'll still do 30+. It takes a fast A+B road run, overtaking everything in sight at full pelt to drop it below 30 (indeed, it's hard to keep up such a pace on todays busy and scamera infested roads)....

Being honest about the above, don't want any of them!

We want another car, we also want something economical...this to us means a diesel...BUT they all seem to come with this DPF that appears to clog up all the time. Sorry if this has come uo before but I didn't see it on a quick look. We have Fiat Doblo at the moment, the DPF had been "modified" & is no longer a problem...are these things a major problem now? we do 150/200 miles a week sometimes less. What can we do? Read more

I don't think the OP should automatically assume that economy equals diesel as this is not always the case. Many of the petrol engines can be economical if driven with a little care and the maintenance and servicing costs can be ridiculous for diesel cars coupled with higher initial costs and the fact that diesel will continue to rise in price faster than petrol.

Hello,

I would like to buy this car but I have no idea about cars and it would be great to understand who much I might have to invest in this car in the next year and what of these I will have to fix. Any advice would be much appreciated!... Read more

While the common sense cautions above are appropriate, common sense cautions are ALWAYS appropriate with used cars.

You can't go wrong with common sense caution, especially if you don't have to buy a used car....
