Hi, i had to get towed back the other night by the AA when my golf chose to spit its engine oil out every where. Got it home and found an oil switch on the oil filter housing was pumping out oil at a fair rate, changed the switch but have noticed i've also got a much slower but continuous (leaks when engine off) leak at the back of the engine (haven't located source yet).
Is it likely that something has caused these two leaks to happen as i find it unlikely that they both developed on the same journey? I would be very grateful for any ideas. ... Read more
Hi first post on here and my first on any forum so take it easy on me if i make a mistake, i purchased a car (Focus 2010 petrol 1.6 Zetec) from a dealer November 2013 had an engine managment light come on while driving called the AA they advised miss fire 4 cylinder poss coil pack got me home. Went to the garage for repair turns out the ceramic part of the spark plug that surrounds the electrode had come away and fallen into the cylinder causing damage to the exhaust valve cylinder has no compression. When i purchased the car i took out a warrenty ( platnum cover with the Warrenty Group ) the garage put the repair cost at £1337 this includes all parts and labour, you guessed it the warrenty company dont want to know stating that the failure was caused by a servicble part ie spark plugs that they dont cover as part of the warrenty , any advise on where i go from her ? is it back to the garage that sold the car please any help appreciated.

£5,000 will get you a Ford S-Max with a TC auto gearbox. In petrol guise it is only with the awful 2.3 petrol I think, but with the diesel it's with a very good 2.0 TDCi engine - I know I have had one for four years and it still beats everything this side of a V8 Audi Q7.
Lots of room, very comfortable and I have needed no repairs. To me it is a seven seat Ferrari....
Anyone heard of it? Allegedly Italian in origin. Read more

Check the wiring to the tailgate where it runs through the rubber trunking on the left side.very common for the wiring to break here.
I don't see the point of this car. Why not buy a Range Rover Sport? I bet the new Disco costs more than the previous RRS too so placing it out of touch with it's original audience.
Someone please tell me how this is different from the new RRS or RR. Read more

Push or tow starting WON'T harm your cat or engine as long as it starts cleanly. It is only large quantities of unburnt fuel that will do harm.
Hello all, 1st post.
I bought a 2nd hand vectra diesel in november last year. Had an engine service, new battery and glow plugs to get me through winter. Always started great, until the outside temp increased in March (above 13c). It can take a while to turn the engine over when the car has been stood still for over 12 hours or so. Turns out its a fuel issue, i dont know a great deal about motors but there has been a pump system fitted along the fuel pipe i presume, situated under the bonnet at the top of the engine(under the wipers) which includes a manual bulb type pump. a mobile mechanic told me to manually pump this to prime the diesel to the engine, which works to an extent. so decided to drop it in with my regular mechanic who suggests its the fuel pump drawing in air and its too expensive to repair on an old car. im wondering a) why was this not an issue on cold starts ? b) why would it draw the air in when parked up/switched off ? (there are no issues when the car is running, its never cut out once started). i have also noticed over the past couple of days that if i park the car either "bonnet down" on a bit of a hill or on a kerb with the passenger side raised it starts 1st time without priming (weird or coincidnce). I hope someone can help with my query, thanks in advance, Andy Read more
Thanks again. Gonna get it looked at on Tuesday. Will report back :)
I have owned the above vehicle from new and it has now covered 63800 miles. Some weeks ago the cruise control system stopped working and I have been told the most likely cause is a weak brake pedal return spring and that as a first step this should be replaced and is a simple job to do.However looking in the Haynes manual there is no information or illustrations as to where the spring is located.
Can anyone advise, is it in the cabin area or somewhere under the bonnet and is it a simple job to do ?... Read more
There will be switches on both the brake and clutch pedals, (the latter applying if the car is fitted with manual transmission), and both need to be functioning correctly for the cruise control to work. This is the first place to check. Make sure they switch properly on and off as the pedals are depressed and released.

I think you'll struggle to get much recompense from the seller now. Basically, on a used car the seller's responsibility tends to reduce as time and mileage since purchase increases. The "6 month" rule is only about burden of proof - as the car worked fine for 5 months the dealer can easily prove there was no fault with it at time of sale.
Even if you did persue it, it would take 8 months minimum (that is the current average small claims court backlog) and, at best, you'd probably get a partial settlement....
