i have recently came across a problem and wondered if anybody have experianced the same thing?i purchased 2 new tyres, balanced and tracked, and away i go,not using the car that much just local stuff,i found that the tyres were not balanced right,i had them checked and found that they where not right, wobbling about,i spoke to the manager and he said it was company policy for me to purchase 2 more, they would send the the "faulty" ones back,if found to be not faulty i would have them back! now surly the tyres should be covered under the sales of goods act,and being faulty should be replaced by the dealer and i shouldnt have to worry about who pays for the faulty ones,is it me or what has happened to the cosumer rights?

First thing i'd do is jack the car up and spin the wheels up, you'll soon see if there's any distortion.

If they are not running true (but the wheels are and do check) i'd then get the beads pressed off the rim and the tyres actually removed completely and examined in case the fitter fitted them dry and ripped the beads apart, not unkown, if all ok relube the beads and reseat/reinflate and then spin them up on the balancer to see if they are now true, this is just in case they were never seated properly when fitted the first time.

My knowledge about complaints is from 40 years ago when i was in the game, faulty tyres were sent back to what was called the Tyre Manufacturers Conference, if found faulty manufacture they would be credited, but as i say thats whats happened in the dark ages, what the score is now i haven't a clue.

To be fair good quality tyres seldom fail in normal service, were these perchance made somewhere a long way East of Stoke on Trent Michelin factory?

For some time Peugeot used alloy wheels with a solid centre, unlike most others that have a hole covered by a centre cap. Most smaller tyre dealers were unable to balance Peugeot Alloys (as i found out when i had a 406) as the usual machine involves putting the wheel over the spindle through the centre cap hole. If you have alloys on your car, check they actually have been balanced. I wouldnt put it past some tyre dealers to tell you they had balanced the wheels even if they hadnt.

I had two 406's and my independent just stuck some Federals on it and all was well.
