I bought a Ford Focus 2012 1.6 diesel Eco Boost in February this year. The car is at present 9 months old. Currently I am experiencing a clunking sound when changing gears whilst the car is in motion.

When I took it to the dealer it would make that clunking noise when using first and second gear. I was told that the noise was part of the workings of the gearbox and that all these models did that. Unfortunately I do not share the same thoughts. I called the Ford Technical Centre (£1 per minute) and there Technical office stated “If you experience a noise within the gearbox whilst the car is in motion, then it is a fault”.... Read more

It may be new and under warranty, and i don't suggest you do this i should add, but if it were mine i'd drain the gearbox oil out and put something better in instead.

I don't know about this model, but if the fault is as common as it would appear then no doubt its been discussed on Ford owners forums, might be worth poke nosing about and see if anyone has cured it.

Hi all, I'm looking for a bit of help and advice.

I've just had a look at a petrol 2002 Skoda Octavia 1.8T Elegance 4X4 5dr which has full service history with Skoda. It recently had its last MOT with no advisories. I had a chance to test drive it and am happy with the way it drives. I am concerned about the mileage (130000 miles) and don't want to end up spending loads on servicing it. How much life do you think it still has? Would you buy it?... Read more

gordonbennet said 'Judge the owner'. I totally agree with that. I bought a 12 year old (now 14) Golf Gti 2 years ago.

The owner had looked after it well, and seemed to be the sort not to let things remain unrepaired. It cost me buttons, and apart from servicing and tyres, hasn't really gone wrong.

I'll third the Yaris, but consider the rare 1.8 SR version fitted with the current Avensis engine, that should be a lovely effortless swift driver.

I have to do the above trip (and back on Monday morning), and I rarely travel in that direction, just wondered if I need to be leaving at the crack of dawn, or if traffic is usually OK.

It's a 9am start so not too early.... Read more

Hi all,

I am looking at buying a used Citroen Xsara Picasso.... Read more

Bromptonaut

The Xsara Picasso was tested in 2001 and has presumably not been re-tested later so it's judged by standard thewn. When was the Ford tested? Citroen are not alone in specifying the Romer/Britax Peggy. Ford did so too, certainly for some Fiesta models.

The criticism seems to be based on seat being forward facing and, in so far as head protection is concerned may be specific to the Peggy though if it's chosen across mfrs I wonder if it was class leading in 2001? . I'd expect forward facing to be norm for a child over toddling age, indeed I don't think we used one after 9-12 months....

Indeed there are loads of Vance Miller Youtube videos. Not a good advert for his enterprises, I'd have said. But informative nonetheless.

Hi New to this forum

Looking for some advice

I have a 2003 Ford Fiesta 1.3 petrol 60k and I noticed yesterday there is significant rattle coming from the engine when I turn the car off. Car starts and drives normal but does have a tapping noise when at idle but that has been there for a year and hasn't given me any problems but when I brought the car back from the garage yesterday because car wouldn't turn over had the garage check out starter motor which was fine turned out to be blown fuse but when I got back I heard a rattling/grind noise coming from engine every time I turn the car off

Confused on what this is

Any help would be much appreciated

Many Thanks

Dan,
You will easily be able to get at least £500 of those prices if not more.

I would go for the 08 plate provided it has full service history including receipts.

I'm looking to replace my 2004 Honda Accord 2.2 CDTi shortly, which I bought ex-demo in 2005.

Annual mileage is low - about 5,000 - which points to petrol. The car sits in the driveway Monday-Friday whilst I commute to work by train, but that low mileage does include some 250 mile round trips for business and leisure. ... Read more

That sounds like a really good choice, Greenslade - the 1.4 TSI is a terrific engine, as is the 2.0 TSI, and the Golf has been well designed to be roomy on the inside without being too big externally.

Thank you so much for coming back to us.
