I am the proud owner of a 2012 VW Transporter SPortsline and I am off to France shortly. I need to fit winter tyres as is the law. Does anybody have any specific recomendations as I have of course looked at all the websites but it is something of a minefield. VW seem to know little or nothing about the subject but the only recomendation they gave was for a Dunlop SP LT 60 which only gets middling scores from some testers. I would really appreciate any ideas as to how to move forward and make an informed decsision and get something really good. My curent tyre size is 255 45 R18. Read more

Yaris is spot on. We've had one on similar duties for four years and it's never missed a beat.

I'd rather have a spare (at least a space-saver) than half the gizmos and gadgets they fill cars with these days (one more thing to go wrong). Given that its doesn't cost that much compared to the overall value of the car when new, I don't see the problem.
As regards saving weight, I wonder how much all the gizmos and gadgets weigh? They could always not keep making each new model 5% larger than the previous one, which would keep the weight down...
Hi,
Any ideas, what would cause my car's steering wheel to pull itself back when moving slowly at full lock?
(The steering wheel pulls back about 4 inches , once every second, when moving on full lock)
It doesn't make any noise when stationary from full lock to full lock..
& It doesn't have power assist.
Thanks for any ideas..
Furthest I've got , is that it maybe the steering column?
I've wiggled it a bit.. I dunno if it is normal for it to move like this?

Hi there. Can anyone help me with this, please? On 20 Sept I had to park outside my works car park on the road. I parked with two wheels on the pavement and when I returned to my car after work, there was a penalty charge notice from Enfield Council on my windscreen, timed at 11:56am. I sent a cheque the next day. Two days later I received in the post a penalty charge notice. I ignored this, assuming it was just a postal confirmation of the notice I'd already paid. Unfortunately it wasn't, it was another penalty charge notice, timed at 9:45am. The civil enforcement officer's (CEO) number is not given on the (earlier) postal PCN, so I presume the CEO who issued the later notice was a different person and did not know I'd already been ticketed. Is this legal? I have now received a Charge Certificate in respect of the PCN I have not paid. Should I appeal the charge I have not paid, or pay this charge and appeal against the one I've already paid?
Thanks. Read more
Phoo, I'd be reaching for my 12 bore and my Davy Crockett hat if I had to live in a place like that! Made good reading though

Great way to save some money on your car when selling it on this new website I have found www.carquid.com - I sold my car for £2, £1 per week and sold in 2 weeks. Big reccomend to this site! Read more
Just hope that the big petrol/dsel retailers follow suit, you would have to pay me to put Morrissons diesel in my car. I lose too much mpg and power to make economic sense. Read more
Absolute PEANUTS. It goes down by 2p now, then in a couple of weeks it goes up 5p. Thats the pattern of the last 4 years, a CON
My SatNav got nicked the other week before I had even used it, so I would be interested in any recommendations before I replace it; I plan to use it as back up for some long distance, house-hunting trips and my only criteria are that it is easy to use, accurate and has speed camera warnings built in at purchase, as my broadband is too slow to download anything (and I am a technophobe!) Would rather not spend too much and not bothered about live features- I dont think. Thanks Read more
Ah OK thanks for clarifying the French legality issue. Sounds like I need to upgrade my mobile then. I am OK at map reading, but have you tried some of those maze-like, rural lanes in places like Devon with high hedges, its easy to lose track especially when driving alone and tricky having to keep stopping to look at the map. Sat Navs have their place occasionally I think.
Now then,
I want to turn off the DRL's on my 62 plate Golf TDI. I've read several explanations of how to do this on both this site and others, all of which involve pulling the indicator stalk down and back, I've tried this several times following the instructions to the second and it doesnt work.... The configuration of the central electrics unit has to be changed using something like VCDS in the long configuration table.
