What tyres would you recommend for my car - it is presently on 225/60 R17s.? Read more
My Ford Focus Zetec 1.8 is suffering with high engine revs when I come to a stop, described in a Ford technical bulletin as 'throttle holdup'.
The age of my car is May 2000. This puts it in the age range covered by the bulletin. Having tried many other suggestions, this is currently the most likely cause.
The bulletin gives a 'Finis' code for the manifold, which is 1111723, however all manifolds are marked with part numbers such as '988F9424KB, or similar.
Ford refuse to give me a part number, which makes searching for a second hand part very difficult. I've seen several different part numbers claiming to be suitable for my era of car, which just adds to the confusion.
So what I am asking is, could anyone who knows the part number that is Finis code number 1111723, please let me know.
Many thanks, Ross.

I have a set of winter tyres from previous car (215-55 R16) and would like to use them on 2011 ceed SW. Recommended steel wheels are 6.00Jx 16, with 205-55 R16 tyres. So my tyres are 10mm wider. Can these be safely fitted to the 6.00J rims? Read more
Thanks guys - i think I,ll go for the sale option just to be 100% safe.
Well it's back again. The dark nights and 'bright lights'. There must be an awful lot of cars that don't have a handbrake fitted. Every man and his wife seems to sit at traffic lights, junctions etc with their foot on the brake pedal. Blinding the manure out of anyone around them. It is ridiculous, not only do they blind the sugar out of drivers behind them, it is poor driving practice and a waste of energy. Then we come to the headlights- or more precisely the lack of one out of two. I nearly came a cropper the other evening. A large van with the offside headlight not working. On a dark road it was difficult to judge the width and position of the vehicle. It also has one of those deadly racks on the side for carrying Glass etc. Just swerved in time to prevent being opened like a can of beans along the side. Come on now people, give a thought and some consideration to other motorists, please. Best to all. Concrete Read more
Don't get me started on rear fog lights. Biggest bugbear of them all.
Even when it's relatively foggy, in a long snaking line of traffic there is absolutely no need for those drivers only metres in front of you to have them on. I can already see your car with normal lights on. And it's dazzling me. Sometimes I put up with it, sometimes I feel the need to flash the lights (especially if there's absolutely no fog)....
Hi
I am looking to downsize my car based on what is now my vastly reduced mileage and am looking at the following vehicles:... Read more
There is a recent topic in the Corolla forum of the Toyota Owners Club entitled "2.0 D-4D - Starting From Cold" ( http://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=141214 ) of someone else who has had trouble starting their Corolla diesel. They had a battery check done by Halfords, who said the battery was fine. Reverted to having the car checked at their Toyota dealer, and the battery completely failed its test. So one new battery.
I am considering buying a Land Rover Defender from Landrovers UK in Mells, Somerset. Does anyone have any experience of dealing with them? If so, would you recommend them? Read more
I could not afford the fuel for a Defender on its own. A Defender towing would presumably need a tanker of its own :-)
ecu makes a clicking sound about every 50 secs or so wit the ignition of and if car is not used for 2 days battery will be flat any idea what the cause might be cheers Read more

Lucky they didn't set it on fire.
Cars in the US must have openable-from-the-inside boots (trunks).
I bought my 2005 Mazda MX5 Mk3 2.0 litre sport from a main dealer last April. It has developed a rumbling noise and the steering wheel vibrates when at 40-60 mph. The edge of the doors have also started to rust. Advice please. Read more
Assuming the rumbling noise is coming from one corner of the car, it is most likely to be a worn wheel bearing.
Provided your tyres are at the correct pressures, the vibration you feel through the steering wheel is probably caused by a wheel being out of balance - you may have lost a wheel weight - check the fronts first.
Car presently at 163,000 miles. Full VW history, oil changed every 5k.
Over the last 20k, our car has started to rattle a bit from the top end. It's particularly noticeable when starting from cold, even with fresh oil. Once warmed up and ticking over, most of the noise disappears leaving just one constant, quieter click/tap occurring at the frequency of approx twice to three times per second.... Read more
Cheers Crasher - this is exactly the advice gleaned from Club Lupo just now.
Apparently, it's completely normal for a higher mileage petrol VAG engine to sound like ours and that it is not a pressing issue, though should be addressed as and when. That lone click/tap which remains in evidence once the engine is warm is presumably just the most worn of the lot....

Depends what you want - long life, low cost, high grip for sporty driving etc.
My last two cars (Volvo V60 and Mondeo IV) have had Michelin Pilot Premacy as factory fit. I've done 20,000 miles in the Volvo and the fronts still have 5mm of tread ... it's a big, torquey diesel and I do drive briskly. Same with my old Mondeo, the Pilots really do last a long time and give a good ride / handling compromise....
