I have a Polo with a/c fitted but not working. I've not had the car that long so not sure of the history of the problem.

I aim to take it to a 'fast fit' place to get it recharged - anything I should check before I go?... Read more

I've re-read my original post and reliased I was unclear with describing the fault.

The interior fan works and the air gets a little bit colder, but only just. I suspect that the gas needs to be replaced / recharged but without taking it anywhere I am only guessing....

Thanks Crasher.

Will get the car sorted this week. Hopefully it will be repaired before the real cold weather....

My car was parked on the road perfectly within the boundary lines and I have a resident permit to park it at that place. Today morning I found the car was smashed from behind. There was a note on the windsreen, in which the driver said "I hit your car, please contact for insurance". The note was in official company receipt of a waste collection company so I reckon it was a truck.

I tried to contact the number given in the note and they took my registration number and all , but they did not give the insurance number or registration number of their vehicle. They just said their insurance will get back to me.... Read more

Just curiuos, how did you know they are a claims management company?

"They" all are !

Each new car I've bought in the last 15 years has included the "manufacturers" leaflet/promotion to use them for any accident repairs - I'm anorak enough to read everything in the documentation pack but sceptical enough to see through the blurb....

Whenever there is a road safety discussion on the radio (well BBC anyway) and TV the pressure group Brake is always invited on to comment, but why? It is obvious what their opinion will be, reduce speeds is their only solution to every motoring safety problem. The organisation is neither objective or offers any serious solutions so why are they taken so seriously by program makers? Read more

. I noticed during the recent coverage of the Israel Gaza spat, a BBC news article focussed on suffering in Gaza, and ignored that in Israel. And I speak as someone who is very critical of Israel. I do think they have a mind set, slightly left of centre, which they are unaware of.

Looking to buy a second car to only use 4 days a week, solely for the trip to and from work, as it's not the main family car and is just for my commute the budget is low (£1200ish hopefully)

The round trip is 80 miles (on a generally clear Motorway stretch). ... Read more

Agree with the comment that absolutely anything will do the job.

We ran an old Daewoo Nubira 1.6 for 70 miles a day on the motorway for a good few years and it never gave any trouble to speak of....

Hi All,
I have posted something similar before and received no replies but I think I am a little further along in my diagnosis now so I thought I would try again...

I have two problems with my Focus TDCi....150k Km on the clock.

#1 Approx. 1 out of 10 starts are "rough". Engine starts unevenly and sounds rough...after 1-2 seconds engine runs smoothly. Sounds like it only fires on 3 cylinders to begin with. No pattern to this...happens on cold starts and warm starts. Engine runs normally aside from starting with smooth idling and good acceleration.

Problem started about 1.5 yrs ago. All glow plugs and their leads have been changed but problem still exists. This issue occurred more frequently a few months ago - maybe 1 out of 5 starts were rough.

# 2. This may or may not be related.....this one is also completely random...whilst driving the glow plug light flashes (a fault code is being written) and after 15 seconds the engine loses all power. I have to pull over, switch off and re-start at which time the engine runs normally again. I have had this problem for 6 years. There is no pattern to this problem other than it never occurs at idle...only when underway at 2-3k rpm. Occurs on 1 out of approx. 50 times I use the car. Occurs no more frequently now than 6 years and 60k Km back.

The car is not used every day and many trips are short - under 10 km. The starting problem was worse, occured 4 times out of 5, when the car was only used for short trips and it did reduce to 1 time out of 5 after a few motorway runs....but it is still there. Diesel filter and air filter have been changed.

Diagnosis so far:
At a recent service a mechanic read a P1200 fault code. Was not able to investigate further.
When I run the dash board check the only dtc that comes up is 9318. There are a lot of other numbers and codes that come up when I scroll through using the trip mileage reset but 9318 is the only dtc.
Shouldn't the P1200 code show up?

Any ideas?

A very helpful person on here, BenG, suggested cleaning the EGR valve - the problems above may be symptomatic of a dirty (but working) EGF valve. On my car it appears to be attached to the intake manifold so that looks like a tricky job but if someone can tell me it's easy enough I will do it.

Replacing the CAM position sensor and updating ECU software may be a good idea.

Any other ideas? I would really like to know the root cause here -a dirty EGR valve does seem possible expecially considering the random nature of the problems....but I really have no idea...

Many thanks in advance - sorry for the long post...

My fiance has just received a 62J penalty notice in the post for having one of his rear wheels on the pavement. He was taking his car to the garage and was waiting to reverse back onto their driveway (at right-angles to the road). There was a car coming out so he had to wait a minute whilst they exited. Whilst he was waiting there he unintentionally had one rear, inside wheel on the dropdown kerb. He was keeping well in as it is a busy highstreet. Once the other car had left the garage, he reversed back into the space on the driveway, off the road. For the very short time he was waiting to reverse, a camera van must have taken a picture of his wheels. This seems so wrong and as he was not issued with the ticket at the time he had no opportunity to take pictures of his own, or gather any evidence, let alone explain things to the traffic warden!

He wants to appeal this notice - does anyone have any advice? thanks v much... Read more

Contravention code 62 is parked with one or more wheel on the pavement. Mainly a London issue as pavement parking there is prohibited unless there are exemption signs. Reverse applies in rest of country.

Camera contraventions don't normally generate a ticket at the scene; pretty well always served by post. ...

I have a problem with my mondeo TDci without any warning the car losses power and goes into limp home mode . If I stop and restart the car the ecu rebooted it resumes power . Sometimes I get warning bleeps from dashboard
The temperature gauge stays steady at the mid range normal, sometimes when the faults occur the temp drops down to the cold. I had the car diagnostic checked. the only code was P1288 recorded cylinder head temperature sensor, but the garage was unable to locate the item. Would this sensor cause the two problems I have .where is this sensor/ does this sensor control the temperature gauge? Read more

Looking to treat myself to a 2/3 year old E Class saloon. Needs to be automatic and I quite fancy the flippy paddles to gearshift. I like my cars to be fairly quick but not to AMG standard. Therefore fuel economy is not an issue here. Can anybody recommend a model and also what models should I avoid. Thanks Read more

That's shocking. It's amazing a manufacturer like Mercedes would throw away their quality reputation AGAIN, after the prolonged rust debacle in the 90s-2000s...

I have a lexus is220d (2007), service and maintained from the main dealers. It has really bad lag below 2200 revs, to the extent it is difficult to drive on steep rds. It also jerks at low revs, once I accelerate over 2000 revs it drives quite normal. Fuel consumption is high, have cleaned the EGR valve and MAF sensor, run a number of cleaners through but sadly no progress. No lights showing on the managment side so please help!! Read more
