I have a Citroen C5 Tourer 3.0 TDi fitted with halogen bulbs. The owners handbook shows that there's meant to be a manual adjuster for the level of the headlamps; however, my car doesn't have this; when I queried it with my Citroen dealer, he said it has self-levelling suspension and therefore doesn't need the manual adjuster.

I'm interested to learn whether this means I could upgrade the headlights to xenons. I thought the pre-requisite for xenons was self-levelling suspension to avoid dazzle when the car is loaded - hence the usually high cost of this as an optional extra.... Read more

i would think it is possible to xenons, but it is a marathon task.New headlights complete with the electronic ballast igniter modules.Possible wiring modification as usually the multi plugs for the headlights will not match. You will also need to fit headlight wash system (if not already fitted) as this will become a future mot requirement if xenons fitted. If the car is fitted with a lamp fail monitoring system, then this will not work correctly.hth

What are the best (brightest) H4 bulbs which are road legal? Philips X-treme Power? Osram Night Breaker? I've seen something advertised as "Xenon H4 Headlight Bulbs" rated at 100/90W but are these replacements specifically for xenon fitments? Read more

3 out of 4 (two cars) of our Philips Extremes still working fine after 5 years now, one blew earlier in the year.

I wonder if those which don't last long are indeed the genuine article.

Given your age and that you may not have been (in the eyes of other insurers) able to accumulate a no-claims bonus, then you'll be unlikely (even for a cheap, small car) to get insured for £750, more like £1500 minimum these days.

Speaking from a personal point-of-view, I would not buy a car until you've had a few years of permanent employment behind you (unless the job demands it), use public transport whenever possible and occasionally hire a car for the odd "road trip" holiday where public transport is lacking or you need to take lots of luggage....

Dipstick is attached to oil filler cap. Sadly, I cannot unscrew the cap and so cannot check oil level.

I have tried when the engine is cold and hot; it will turn until it clicks, but will not pull off.... Read more

After viewing pictures of replacement caps on ebay, decided to use brute force. Cap came away from dipstick which was jammed in engine. Dipstick removed with pliers and reunited with cap - all is now well.

I agree too - I came away from the course thinking regular 'refresher' training should be a legal requirement, it happens in many professions and driving is the control of potenially dangerous machinery.

Still, the course also enabled me to save on insurance costs so there was an economic benefit in taking part too. (and a bit of sport whilst some of the 'less intelligent' comments were being made)

I have just had a new battery fitted, the car being 15months old with 7500 on the clock. I was told by the garage that the battery had been damaged because I had done too many short journeys and I gather this is because of the efficient dynamic system. None of this was pointed out when I purchased the car. Apart from having to do long journeys is there anything else I can to to stop the new battery from draining? Does it help to turn off the stop/start button, should I charge the battery regularly, can the system be disabled? It does not seem to be a very "efficient system" to me!! Have others had this problem?

The garage said a new battery costs £300, (after protesting they did not charge me), is this really true? If I need another battery in the future do I have to get a bettery from the dealer?... Read more
