Land Rover Defender - Landrovers UK - JCE

I am considering buying a Land Rover Defender from Landrovers UK in Mells, Somerset. Does anyone have any experience of dealing with them? If so, would you recommend them?

Unless you live and work in the country, you are buying a tractor to do a car's job. I drove both 40 years ago. Tractors have improved since then. Defenders? No.

Thanks for your comments - I will be living in the country and have considered the limitations of a Defender. However, my question was does anyone have any experience of Landrovers UK and would they recommend them? Any insightful comments on this dealer gratefully received.

Aquaintsnce of mine just sold her 110" wheelbase version. The 24mpg was just too much to bear.

If you google "Landrovers uk mells somerset", you'll find a bit of info which seems positive. Hope this helps with your specific question.

We live in mid-wales and travelled up to Kentdale Landrover in Kendal, as getting hold of the 110 version we wanted difficult.. Can't speak highly enough of them and not had one problem with the Landy either apart from the usual door seals issue.

Thanks daveweim, a bit of a schlep from Kent, but I shall take a look.

Just remember that they are a farmer's vehicle - not a car that you occasionally take off road to the country show or use when the snow comes along. If that is the case, get a decent Japanese 4x4 instead, which will be acceptable on ordinary roads and most off-road, be much more reliable and not cost the earth to buy/run as Land Rovers/Range Rovers/Discos do.

Don't buy it for the same "heart" reasons that pople buy Alfas who can't afford the hassle and huge bills thereafter and ignore their brain saying "NOOOO!"

Have to admit that I love driving the Defender and we even took it around France this year towing the caravan with it. I prefer driving it to my Focus!

I could not afford the fuel for a Defender on its own. A Defender towing would presumably need a tanker of its own :-)
