This happened to my 23 year old son over the weekend.

He had arrived home around 3am parked along from our house, sat in the car listening to a bit of music finishing, the police car passed him, the music finished and he got out the car and was walking away , when the following happened : (his words)... Read more

Just bought a pair of Osram Nightbreaker Plus H4 bulbs for our i20. Found that Amazon are substantially cheaper than some other internet sellers. The Nightbreaker Plus bulbs cost £11.98 for the pair (sold as a 'duo' pack) directly from Amazon, rather than one of the marketplace sellers.

Pairs of Philips X-Treme Vision seem to be around the £19 mark.... Read more

55 watts is 55 watts whatever you do with it

Using a bulb's electric consumption is a crazy way to rate them - what matters is light output in lumens - they aren't all equal !!

As we all know that there are various reasons to consider when we decide to buy a used car that includes various sections and the improving reliability of older cars still the main attraction of used cars is the affordability. There was a market research in which it was concluded that the average transaction price on a new car in the year 2011before taxes and fees was $29,916 and the average used car transaction was $9,297 at the same time.

In life some things just happen - in this case you have brought things upon yourself. On the phone in a car and driving without a seat belt. In between not notifying change of address to DVLA - 3 x events that are now costing / going to cost you £££s

Write to DVLA and explain circumstances in an ordered fashion...

Hello everyone, hope somebody can help me out with this one. I've found a car i really like on autotrader listed as a trade sale. so went to have a look, when i found the place it was a normal house in an estate. the gentleman assured me he was a motor dealer just based at home. which seems reasonable.

i've heard of people pretending to be private sellers when they are trade but never the other way round.... Read more

Well, i may of bottled it or had a lucky escape, i found a better car for a similar price at a dealer that i know has a history.

i'm sure that the one from home was probably a genuine dealer its just a lot of money for me and the family and i just couldn't take the risk....

On a previous thread I was debating going petrol over diesel for my next car. However after thinking logically (i.e. not every diesel owner suffers a turbo failure, or countless DMF replacements) we have both come to the conclusion that due to our mileage each year we would be around £700-£800 better off (and that is a conservative estimate) by going diesel.

However I'm also aware of potential pitfalls, especially with newer engines with DPFs, and with certain problems with older engines (i.e. 2 litre VW units).... Read more

Yes - if you've worked out that diesel is best, then a VW or Skoda with the 1.9 TDI engine is the way to go, followed by the Mondeo.

There are lots of Mondeo diesels that give sterling service, but I'm not sure whether the Mazda 2.2 has overcome the high-mileage failures that affected the 2.0. Someone on here may be able to answer that one.

Tried to replace the speed sensor on my Ford Ka 1.3 2000 but found it wouldn't tighten up all the way. Checking the old one I found a piece of the metal cable that inserts into the engine was broken off. Is there anyway of getting this out of the engine? Read more

You will need to remove the plastic gear drive unit from the gearbox. If I recall ,it is held on by 1 x 10mm bolt.Once this is out of the gearbox, you should be able to pick out the remains of the drive cable.hth
