I bought a rover 45 at 35000miles and on my way from buying it the head gasket blew. I had an uprated headgasket fitted as well as the water pump and cambelt. After work was completed, I noticed that each I started from cold and reversed, the car would be jerking as if losing power. Last week I drove frove from London to Nottingham using wipers and lights and I felt loss of power on the motorway and the car wouldn't start the following day. I've changed the battery but after a few days the same problem has started all over again. The car responds with jerks if i try to accelerate quickly. Read more
thanks very much, I will have these looked at. Also this evening when driving to work, I could not go above 50mph, each time I accelerated the car would jerk and I had the engine management light flashing for about half a minute.
Hello everyone,
Thinking of ordering my first brand new car in January. I think I've narrowed it down to the Polo, either the 1.4 Match or the 1.2 TSI SEL or R-line. ... Read more
I got the 1.4 Polo 2.5 years ago and have been very pleased with it. At the time I read that they could have heavy oil consumption but mine uses nothing noticable between services.
I find it smooth and well suited to the car although I am not really interested in shaving a few tenths off the 0 to 60 time. The 1.2 TSI gets good reviews but I have found the 1.4 to be a good engine.
My wife's Rav 4 runs roughly when travelling at a steady speed. It's fine when accelerating - no lack of power and ticks over very steady too. I've changed the coil packs and leads and plugs, as well as the fuel filter but with no difference. Toyota main dealer couldn't find anything on the diagnostic check - any ideas? Could it be the injectors? It's only done 94k miles. Thanks. Read more
Unfortunately not totally cleared the problem - maybe a new MAP sensor is needed. Could a MAP sensor be faulty and not show up on a diagnostic check? I don't want to shell out for a new sensor if it's not the problem. I've checked the hose between the manifold and the sensor and it seems ok. Is there anything else that could be causing the problem? Thanks.

Cars often have a number of cheap & poor quality components that are going to break as some stage.
Recommend you get the car taken to a garage and have them fix it for you.
Hi I am looking to change my car. Does anyone know the best time i.e before or after Christmas. I am looking at 2 to 3 year old Toyota avensis. I need to change before March in line with my car allowance rules.
Any advice is appreciated. Read more
"They say" that you may get a better deal just before the month end as Salesmen are chasing bonuses.
Not sure that this still holds water, but between Christmas and New Year may be a good time to go car shopping.
I know this has probably been discussed a million times and I have googled extensively but I can't find much concrete detail.
My Golf shows the usual behaviour of starting super-easily when cold and having to crank for a while when hot. I understand that some people have fixed this with either 1) new battery 2) new starter motor 3) new both of these... Read more
One other method is to establish if the car starts faster with the coolant temperature sensor unplugged (you need to clear the fault code after doing this) and then install a 5 pin relay that disconnects the coolant temperature sensor when the starter motor solenoid is operating and drops the ECU feed onto a resistor that mimic’s the reading given when the engine is cold. As soon as the starter motor stops cranking the temp sender reconnects and the very short time the relay spends between contacts does not seem to generate an open circuit fault code.
I have a audi a4 fsi 03 plate it's been in the garage for 24 hrs trying to find the cause of a random misfire on No 3 cyclinderand they cant find what is causing it as it doe's not show on the engine management computer has anyone have any idea's or had a similar problem cheers tony Read more
I have had a random misfire on my Avensis for nearly 2 years, It has been in 2 Toyota dealers, 1 could find no faults, the other quoted me for a new Catalyc converter at over 2 grand, this I believe is because after the 1st fault on the diagnostic machine which is randon misfire the 2nd fault is the catalyc convertor. When it misfires and i go over 3000 revs all power is lost, I stop turn off engine, restart and off it goes again for a while. I have also had it in 3 independent garages with no luck as to the cause of the problem.
Could you please advise me if my 2004 Yaris t spirit has a timing belt or chain ?
Thank you Read more
Chain.

Whats the matter with you people and all your negative comments. This is simply an article stating the actual facts. Skyactive technology is obviously very effective and means more power, less emissions and better fuel consumption. It is only natural that the new model will be compared to the main competition. Just because it makes Ford and VW not look great does not mean it is biased towards Mazda, they are the facts people, accept it.
