Should cyclists be subject to a curfew Will imposing a night-time curfew on cyclists make the roads safer? <*** class="imagecache imagecache-article_image_480" title="Should cyclists be banned from the roads at night?" src="http://images.cdn.autocar.co.uk/sites/autocar.co.uk/files/imagecache/article_image_480/050511-c-vt.jpg" alt="Should cyclists be subject to a curfew" width="480" height="318" /> Should cyclists be banned from the roads at night?I’m a cyclist and proud of it. Still got the same Bangernomics bike I bought in 1972. Plenty of life left in it too. Popped up to the builder’s merchants the other day to pick up some filler, but it was daylight. And that’s why there is still so much life left in me. I now operate a cyclist curfew: when it is dark, I don’t go out. It is as simple as that.... Read more
My son has recently cycled from John O'Groats to Lands End and regularly commutes from Bow to Baker Street. I regularly cycle to and from work.
We both appreciate the road courtesy of the majority and deplore those who think cyclists should not have a right to road space....
The AA say that fuel has dropped by 9p a litre for the petrol companies but only 4p has been knocked off at the pumps. Rip off again! Read more
I honestly can't understand how it's still managing to trade, particularly as Tesco (Amersham) is only a further two miles down the road.
Easy - Tesco aren't competitive, they'll quite happily NOT undercut local outlets - unlike Asda and Morrisons
Dear Honest John - thank you for your recent help about poor driving light replacement policy for my 5008 recently - a ridiculous affair and I'm sure this isn't the only manufacturer to do this.

I have this car 1 year, then the horn and central locking start'd playing up (lock presion). This is a intermittent fault, the car take's its notions it works fine for at least 1 day out of 3 weeks!
I also notice'd lack of power loss (turbo boost) when going up hill, but when this fault is not thier the car run's fine! pulls the hill no bother and horn - central locking works fine also.... Read more
And may I open it out somewhat: if your overriding criterion was a serene, soft, cushioning ride what car would you choose, please?

Mini Cooper Hatch comes with 175/65/15 alloys as standard - there's an upgrade to some slightly smarter but still 175 alloys for approx £80 with the pepper pack. We have a 2012 mini with these fitted and the ride is fine - live in North London with plenty of pot holes and speed humps! The Mini is set up for a go kart ride, but comfort is better than our Honda Jazz and far better than a Corsa we used to have in the family....
I am looking for a small family car within budget £3000 to £4000 and can stretch upto 4500(if really need to). My daily round trip is 20-25 miles excluding weekends. couple of long trips in a year will bring within approx 10000 miles a year. I am looking for fuel economic, reliable and a decent car. I am not yet decided I should go for petrol or diesel or which engine size. Please help!

Petrol probably as an old diesel may save you a few quid a week in fuel but one big bill and you're toast. I'd go for a 1.6 petrol Focus because they're a great drive and good value at the price you're looking at. Lots about in your price range so you can be fussy about condition, mileage, full service history and maybe even colour. As with most petrol engines a 2 litre will go bit better but use quite a bit more fuel and cost a lot more to tax. The 1.6 is decent enough on fuel, generally reliable and if they go wrong, cheap to fix and service with lots of decent independents to do it. If you favour potential reliability over quality of drive look to the east for slightly older Honda Civic, Mazda 3, Toyota Corolla, Mitsubishi Colt, Lancer etc etc...
I have a 2001 Rover 25, the turbo doen`t kick in until 3000rpm, when it should kick in at 1500 rpm. Have checked all the vacuum pipes and found no vacuum leaks, what could be causing this?? Read more
Thanks for your reply. I have checked all your ideas, and all is well. The Turbo still doesn`t kick in until 3000 rpm. I`m at a loss and am about to scrap the car. Seems a shame to waste an otherwise good low mileage car.

This dealer www.automaticcarsltd.co.uk/ specialises in automatics and over the last few years seems to have made a habit of finding very low mileage Yaris Verso autos. I'm not sure how they find them but considering they were last sold new in 2005 it's amazing they keep coming up with cars that only have mileage in the teens of thousands.
I've never visited or bought a car from them as they're darn sarf where it's easier to find auto's, indeed I've even heard of dealer groups shipping autos from oop north to darn sarf because they're easier to sell in the South East.

normally relates to sticking variable vanes. Has it been stripped and cleaned properly and do you know whether the mechanism all functions correctly ? It amy be clean but could still be sticking ? have the pressure sensor values been checked ?
