Which Mini is most comfortable over speed-humps? - Losta Risin'

And may I open it out somewhat: if your overriding criterion was a serene, soft, cushioning ride what car would you choose, please?

Thank you.

None is the short answer!

All Minis have a reputation for having a firm ride, because they are designed with fun and handling in mind.

Having said that, you can minimise the firm ride by avoiding larger than standard alloy wheels. Stick to 16" max.

So I suppose a Mini First or Mini One with steel wheels and taller rubber would ride speed bumps best.

What car would provide a serene soft cushioning ride? Would have to be a previous model Citroen C5 (2001-2008) or an even older Xantia.

Thank you, '72 dudes', every single one of you.

I ask about the moden Mini because I've seen weird versions of it, lately. For a supposedly squat design these things are blasted tall and seem to be trying to ape the off-road look. The ones with the two doors at the back, I think they are, they appear to have tractor-type tyres. It made me wonder what they're like over the humps, holes and cable-company ridges that comprise the British road of today.

Any other opinions as to a car with a hovercraftlike ride?

Try a Citroen with the hydragas ride. Just don't expect them to be reliable though.

Or cars with standard (non-low-profile) tyres. Not many around these days though - mostly base models of the cheapo cars.

One of these, perhaps?

Mini Cooper Hatch comes with 175/65/15 alloys as standard - there's an upgrade to some slightly smarter but still 175 alloys for approx £80 with the pepper pack. We have a 2012 mini with these fitted and the ride is fine - live in North London with plenty of pot holes and speed humps! The Mini is set up for a go kart ride, but comfort is better than our Honda Jazz and far better than a Corsa we used to have in the family.
