Hi Folks

Discovered early today that the hose from the power steering reservoir to the pump on my son's Ford Focus has split. Looking online I'm beggared if I can find one, though somebody suggested Ford might still do them. Obviously breakers are another option. Can anyone suggest a decent aftermarket supplier who might do such a thing, if this site allows?... Read more

The Mk 2 Focus was not introduced until 2005. You have a Mk 1.

Drivers and now the police over here in France are fed-up with the blatant profiteering and revenue raising by the government with their radars. €700,000,000 last year.

In my own experience the french police were ok. They inspected my documents and didn't fine me.

The British media like to paint them as corrupt foreigners one step above the mafia....

Hiya, I'm all new to this so please bear with me if it this is slightly long winded and doesn't make sense.

I've just purchased a 1996 1.1i Citroen Saxo which has not been driven in about 6 months. Its due its MOT next month, which is fine as I've already been over everything they're likely to look at for its MOT.... Read more

Hi, my wife has a W reg with 92000 miles, I have some experiance.. ;-) If I understand you right, it sound like the car starts up and drives, but when you stop, the engine stops. Sounds like the idle/tick over is not working . If you were to drive and then while still at speed, push the clutch in and pop gear into neutral and coast, does engine stop?...

GB - that was the question I asked our developer, and (fingers crossed) he thinks he's managed to do just that to get shot of him.

In the summer, our family 'bus broke down, hundreds of miles from home. Got recovered to a nearby garage who inspected it and said it needed a new top end and timing belts - ouch!

Work came to around £1700. The mechanic who did it still thought the car was down on power after the rebuild, and I mentioned on the phone that I'd heard getting the timing right was critical here - he apparently hadn't much experience of this. Collected it, and apart from a strange 'thump' and sound on startup, it drove well, if a little down on power - then again it had done over 200k miles.... Read more

My glow plug lamp is continually flashing but when attached to the analyser no fault is shown. I have had the plus changed and still it flashes. Other symptoms I have are bad starting 10 - 15 turnovers before it starts and then it runs rough with clouds of white smoke and a rattle in the engine. After a short while the engine settles down and I can pull away. The smoke then soon stops and after about a mile the engione runs normally. I am still getting 55ish mpg and the performance does not appear to be affected. Read more

Hi,

After my garage changed the Glow Plugs (with no noticeable change) they spoke with someone they called the "Diesel Man" who advised that all was needed was to re-programme the injectors. Now this has been done the warning light has stopped flashing and the car now starts first time. I have used one of the fuel additives sold by Halfords (Comma Diesel Magic) and am currently giving the engine a burn out. Still seem to be getting 48 - 50 mpg even at 80mph on motorways. Hopefully when I resort to the sensible 50 - 60 on journey to work mpg will pick up again.

I've just had a new head gasket fitted along with everything else.

I have a few questions as I feel my garage are ripping me off!

1) the first head gasket they fitted didn't work so they bought a new one, should I have to pay for the one that didn't work?
2) when you change the head gasket would you normally change the thermostat?

Basically they had my car for 7 days, assured me that they tested if, I had the car for less than 24 hours and had to get the AA to tow us back as the water was boiling so much you could hear it vibrating. The AA said that it is the thermostat as that was the only thing not stated on the invoice.

The garage had the car this morning, they say they have now fitted the thermostat and that's not the problem.

I really don't trust the garage now, they have contradicted themselves on the phone, any ideas what it could be?!
