Civic died on the motorway exit. Started then died at 3000 rpm. Then wouldn't start, CEL on. Started again then died, then wouldn't start. So, it will start sometimes and run for 5 to 10 minutes and other times it won't start at all. It has new plugs, oil, air, cambelt, waterpump plenty of coolant in the header tank.

It's done 139,000 miles, and is 1.6 litre.... Read more

Has anyone ever come across this before? The car ticks, 24/7, like a bomb's about to go off.

It's coming from the engine compartment, I think, in the bit in front of the (UK) Driver's steering wheel. Very odd. Think it's electrical -- but don't have any idea what it is, and Google fails to inform me?

Hopefully that car won't explode, but after 134,000 miles and its reliability history...

The roof above my leasehold flat leaks after heavy rain. The large resulting damp patches are a health hazard and, because of their proximity to electrical circuits, a fire hazard.

If I were a tennant I could force the landlord to repair the defect under Section 82 of the Environmental Protection Act. Does anybody know if I can do the same as a leaseholder? Read more

RE: Do you pay maintenance?

Yes - I've now found out from another forum that the EPA is applicable to leasehold flats. Thanks....

100 miles a day @ 25/30 mpg makes the amount of fuel you are putting in about right.

2 ton like vehicle brick, industrial all wheel drive transmission to drag round, it all adds up....

My wife had an old (R-1998), lovely Audi A3 (1.8 sport) which was recently written off by the insurance, due to an accident.
I'm looking for a replacement with the following spec:
1.8 tfsi
Auto (so that we can share the driving, I have a slight walking issue) Approx 4 years 30K miles
I've been tracking the main Audi web-site on a daily basis but not very much is turning up. I also keep an eye on Car Giant.
Are there any other sources, that you would suggest I look at? Also, will there be a big difference in performance if we drop the spec down to a 1.6? Thanks, bern

I think you'll find a 1.6 a bit tame after a 1.8. I'm not sure how many 1.8s you'll find; you might like to look at a 2.0, of which there should be plenty on Autotrader.

I've never had much luck with WD40 are there any others that work better?

I can't see how the lubricant can get past corrosion then trickle round a thread of a bolt that is tightend hard and therefore creating a seal. Something for Mythbusters perhaps. Read more

get a can of penetrating oil, its much much better than wd40. just dont let fall over. . i rap a large jubilee clip round its base , helps to stabilise it
