The Mercedes-Benz I bought earlier this year turned out to be a real dog--beautiful, but enough to make you cry with its problems. Now it's sitting dead with a blown engine--the timing chain broke. Enough of imports, I've had two bad ones in a row. Now I'm looking for something along the lines of a Ford Crown Vic, Lincoln Town Car, Mercury Grand Marquis...but: can all y'all think of something similar that I might be overlooking? I'm leaning towards a Town Car but I'm willing to hear other suggestions in that barge/land yacht area...I keep thinking I'm forgettting something. Thank you all! Read more
hi, my boyfriend have just had a new clutch, and rear wheel bearing done, passed mot today but its still black smoking and sometimes white smoke, and when accelerating there a whooshing comming out of the air vents ??? recentley had intercooler pipe changed also .... any1 know whats wrong ???? thanx in advance Read more
Presumably the smoke was there before the clutch and bearing were done, if you have a whooshing noise coming from the engine compartment I would suggest you look at the intercooler pipes, sounds as though one is disconnected, that would account for black smoke too.
since replacing the engine coolant temp (ECT) sensor this morning before work (decided it was easier than doing it in the dark in the evening).
Had proved it was the ECT as bought a new one (~£20) and then on a cold day, tried starting car, not happy. So unplugged old sensor and plugged in the new one, with the sensor dangling in the engine bay.... Read more
My 440 had problems that resolved themselves when we took the top of the (what used to be a carburretor) and found that the throttle flap was quite stiff. The problem was gone after we oiled the throttle spindle and freed it up.

A genuine exchange unit base engine is about £3500 inc VAT and an exchange head about £1800 plus a huge pile of bits to fit it so the base engine is good value.
I have just bought a 2007 plate 1.8 TDCi Galaxy, it has a slight missfire on tickover, which I initially thought was a faulty injector or something similar. However, I have had a diagnostic check done on it at a ford dealership and it doesnt show a fault. When you pick the revs up into the normal operating range, the missfire is not noticable and the engine appears to run smoothly enough.
It is also a bit troublesome to start, taking more that one attempt and needing the revs to be put on as soon as it fires to stop it cutting out.... Read more
I have seen some Connect vans that show similar starting issues, and has been caused by the incorrect engine oil being used.Just a thought.hth

Oldroverboy is a fan but they don't have enough USps....
I agree I'm a fan, but it is because i have been lucky and bought at silly prices for a 1 year old car each time saving 50ish%... The epica was good, comfy and economical, but essentially fragile engine, look at the captiva forums for 2.0 diesel engine problems.the cruze is not much worse on fuel than the epica but not as comfortable. All of my cars get sold at end of warranty, fully maintained, and in good condition, so have got an acceptable price each time. I'm a fan because it is budget motoring.
My friend and I are both self-employed electricians, and he has recently bought an '09 plate double cab Navara turbo-diesel.
I drive a 54 plate Berlingo Multispace 1.9D... Read more
I suppose if you were unlucky enough to have a Volvo or Jaguar petrol you wanted to sell and the road tax was nearly as much as the car is worth then you would be pretty fed up.
My son has just bought his wife a new fiesta and I think its road tax free for five years we seem to have a much fairer system here in Germany but I suppose a country has to get its money from somewhere .
Hi,
Not sure if i'm in the right place........I'm looking at starting a small business early next year and I know i'm going to need trade insurance as it will involve moving customers cars and some buying cars for clients etc, I also want the business to include rental of 1or2 cars which will be quite specialist. I spoke to my trade insurance broker today and he said that the insurance companys he deals with strear clear of hiring.... Read more
Thanks again for your replies, insurecarhire have £600 one off setup payment, then it is about £15 per hire day per car. My trade insurance quote was £1200 for the year. Has anyone got any other ideas for combineing trade insurance and ocasional hire out of cars? Guess insurecarhire wouldn't be so bad if it didn't have such a large setup fee.
Ideas much appricated....
I have a Peugot 206 that is misfiring relly badly, a code was shown to change injector 2, did that same problem, more codes, changed the plugs, ok for a few hours, then it misfires again, code comes up for the coil pack, changed that, then got codes for injector no.3, wtf is going on with this car please
Its when it gets hot that the problem starts, as in goes anywhere Read more
Thank you for that
My Peugeot is still misfiring, the original garage changed the wrong injector, as on a Peugeot 2061-4 goes right to left not left to right. Replacing the right one hasn't helped. More codes have come up, so if its not the injectors, coil, plugs why does it keep chugging like a boat and b***** beeping?...
