Hello

This is my first post on these forums, although I have scoured through them regularly and find them to be the best non-biased forums I could find!... Read more

None of the mpg's related above seem to be so wonderful, which after all is what a diesel is supposed to be for.

Hi I got vw 2006 1.9, 5 gears(bkc engine) its got some issue with gearbox before, some strange noise from it coming, check oil level and its been only 500 grams in it instead of 1.9l. Now I know its internal bearings making noise, as advised. So I wondering it's better to change gearbox to second hand or rebuild the same one? Read more

Hello Again

I wonder if when you get a moment you would be kind enough to point me in the right direction, I intend to have the gearbox oil changed ( when the car is next on a ramp)...

I'm after a 7 seater, cheap to run, motor. My budget is preferably £7500 - £8000 but could go up to 9k for the perfect one.

I really like the look of the Toyota Verso, but everything I read tells me to go for the Grand C4 Picasso.... Read more

Wife went to see a 7 seat Verso and the salesmans showed her a 5 seat one, told her its the same car.

Basically he was bone idle, the 5 seat one was in the showroom, the 7 seat one was outside and he just could not be bothered to get his sheepskin and trilby and go outside....

Now the cold mornings are here, flat batteries show themselves. I saw an ad in the Telegraph quite a few months ago for a Start Genie, that you plug into the 12v supply and it will supply enough power to start the engine in the event of a flat battery. I cannot see this on the Telegraph shop page anymore, and can find only a couple of sellers on Google. Is this item not really as good as it claims to be? I don't use my MX-5 a lot, and invariably the battery is flat this time of year (in spite of a new battery fitted a few months ago). This would appear to be a good solutioin to the problem, but I'm a bit worried about the lack of information. Anyone tried one of these? Read more

The handbook will inform you if the vehicle battery is required to be disconnected if an "ordinary" charger is used. The CTEK (or similar ) is recommended for prolonged use with the battery connected and it will not upset the electronic control unit.

Driving back home tonight the engine warning light came on. I checked the code when I got home and it was P0420 which I gather is 'Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)'

Any suggestions on what to check? A quick google throws up all sort of possibilities.... Read more

Oh, yes, I realised that! Still, even £130 is more than I want to have to spend on it. Ideally I wanted nothing more than to have to put fuel in it until either my current job is declared safe, or I get a new one and I can change her for a nice i20...

Now looking for a car that has the characteristics of a four wheel drive but in reality only has 2 driven wheels.

I'm a bit tired of the extra weight and thirst of four wheel drive and as I never go anywhere more hazardous than the occasional patch of grass, I don't need it. But I do like the ride height and other features that come with a 4wd type car. I'd prefer petrol too.... Read more

CLimate control is great. It is on alll the time and it works.

If it does nt work then something is wrong, either get it fixed or read the manual....

Anybody any idea why, very occasionally, when parked for a length of time, all of the windows on our car open themselves - about two-thirds down.

Ours is an 04 plate but our neighbours have a 57 plate V50 which has just done exactly the same. Cheers. Read more

Quite alot of cars have it. Audis, Skodas, VWs, Fords etc.

So its not just a Volvo feature, it comes in mighty useful when its a hot summers day and you can open your windows from the office window before you jump in it.

I have come across a similar problem where vehicle would not start of starter but started when it was parked on a slight incline after doing exhaustive checks we found the cause we found that the starter wire at cranking was causing a rf interference to cranshaft sensor to interupt cam/crank sync. Then theres the possibility at key on at certain components where you get a 12v feed but at cranking you get zero volts.HthRegards Mickeybo

Hi there. I am new here and heard through friends that this is the best place for advice. My car has been eating oil like mad for a while. Started to loose power and stayed in high revs before changing gears(automatic). Had the cat change and fitted a new egr valve. But problem is still there. Started to blow white smoke realy bad when reving engin or pulling away. There is no noise from engine or overheating problems. Have change coil pack and plugs also. Two plugs were very oilly and realy bad. It idels okay and only sounds like misfire when driving. There is also no oil in water. Had a diag check done and they say it missfires and piston 4 is bad. So i just want to know if its better to get a 2nd hand engine or try to do the valves and piston rings myself. Or if anyone knows were i can send the head off to to get checked and replace the inside bits. dont want to go to dealer, they want a stupid amount of money just for taking apart and chekking. I can get piston rings from eurocarparts if i realy need to but i dont know how to check what i need to replace. The car has done almost a 100k. I also did the pedal test and it comes up with all 4 pistons misfires. Thanks in advance. Read more
