This morning I had to call the RAC out, as I was not able to start my 2L Diesel Ford Mondeo.
When I tried to start it, "Engine Malfunction" flashed up on the dash, the left and right indicator lights on the dash flashed rapidly and there was a rapid ticking noise from the engine compartment.... Read more
i am shopping around for a replacemet . I have seen a fair few VW passat with the common rail engine. How good are these engines? Any common problems? Any problems with DPF? refined?
Please advise?... Read more
I have had the pleasure of a CR 140 Passat for the past 10 months, having moved on from a 130 PD Passat, different variants we have owned for the past 8 years.
As Seant states, it doesn't quite have the shove of the PD engine, but also doesn't have its noise or vibration, none of which I found to be a problem when driving anyway....
Hi can anybody cast any light on a starting problem I have on my Lucida?. When I turn the ignition on I usually get an audible click after approx 30 seconds, this I presume are the plugs which have reached tempreture and now ready for me to turn over the engine. Just recently this click has been sporadic and the engine refuses to start. Even when I have run the vehicle it's a real lottery if the engine will start again once I have stopped the vehicle.
Other forums I have been on point me towards the Stop Solenoid, but they refer to non starting vehicles and not a sporadic starting problem like mine. I have checked all the usall culprits like Battery, changing the Fuel and air filters etc. It has been suggested it could be an injector fault, but the car runs fine with no eratic idle problems once running. Has anybody come across this problem with their Toyota Lucida, and point me in the right direction? Read more
Thanks, if it ever stops raining in the south west I will give it a go. Thanks again
Hi all.
I need some advice.... Read more
Well, i as some others had my car converted to LPG, my only regret is that i didn't do it years earlier.
Indeed now after nearly 30 years of almost constant Diesel ownership, often one out of two cars being Diesel, our one last remaining Diesel is going to be replaced by another petrol, which if it isn't already converted will after a few weeks to confirm condition go in for conversion....
Hi there
The last couple of winters on cold mornings, my car struggles to turn over and in a couple of cases hasn't started. I had a new battery fitted last year and the problem still occurs this year. One mechanic who lives in my street heard my car turning over and suggested that I have a lazy starter motor, which would make sense as I once my car starts running, I could go up the road to get some petrol, then my car will turn over without any problems and it never impacts on my 15 mile journey into work. This only happens on cold mornings, mild mornings and other times of the year it is never an issue.... Read more
Another common place susceptible to damp, which is so easy to fettle it's worth doing first, are the connections to the battery itself.
Remove, clean, vaseline and reattach.
hi ,my citroen picasso when starting from cold is lumpy and smoking ,not running on all 4 cylinders .once ive rev it a couple of times it clears and drives fine .the error code is p11351 .glow plug relay fault.can you tell me where the glow plugs are ,and is it them thats faulty or the relay.thanks ray. Glow plugs don't usually make much difference to the starting on Hdi engines, yours of course could be the exeption of course. You will find them on the cylinder head below the injectors. There should be wires connecting them altogether, if you connect a voltmeter between any one of the glow plugs and earth, when you switch to the glowplug poition on the key you should have 10 - 11 volts for about 15 seconds, if you do the relay is OK but one or more of the plugs may have failed, if the voltage is 11 - 12 v that would indicate failed glowplugs.
Hi
I've got a Mk5 1.9TDI 2004 (engine code BKC) and am having ongoing issues with coolant. In the last 12months the coolant expansion tank has required topping up in fits and starts. Added to this, opening the coolant tank cap would result in a a big whoosh of pressure and the coolant level rising rapidly (even though the car had been sat for several hours), although this pressure build up has dissapeared in the last 4 months. On starting the car and then checking the tank level (once the car was up to running temp) the coolant level was then low again.... Read more

My picanto petrol 2008 keeps blowing a 10 amp Interior fuse which i Am told is for 2 02 sensors and crank sensor. It dangerously refuses to pull away when stopping at traffic lights, junctions etc (not every time just few times weekly). Also, sometimes it just won't stArt at all. Is there a quick and cheap way of diagnosing this problem? Thanks in advance Read more
Hi, thinking about it I actually had my fuel pump replaced earlier this year. I now realise that the 10 amp fuse that is blowing for me ( twice today and I was only in the car 40 mins) is connected to the 02 sensors and crank sensor. After unplugging this and that.... I realise I think my problem is the crank sensor. Thank you for your reply, I hope to get this sorted as soon as possible
Hi everyone need some advice quickly.
Sold a car 2 years ago. Was then contacted by an insurance company and police 2 weeks later to say the car had been involved in accident after sale date. I told them the details of the buyer and advised i was no longer the owner. I also sent a letter to the dvla to advise that they had not taken my name off the logbook and to do so with the correct details asap and provided date of sale.
2 years later now a third party company presumably working for an insurance company has contacted me advising me to prove that i sold the car, i advised all relevant parties are aware who the owner was at the time as i have given the details, it seems to me that the person that bought the car has refused to accept liability one way or another and now the company has come to me?
I have now received a letter from the MIB advising that they believe i was the owner and driver which i was clearly not. I don't have much documentation to prove the sale as it was 2 years ago and just thought it would be a normal sale.
I have already advised the third party company that the vehicle was sold but it seems that due to dvla not changing my name off the logbook at the correct time they keep on wanting to pursue me. I have now requested from the dvla details of when the vehicle was taken off my name.
It seems as though whoever had the accident is trying to pull a fast one and i am being blamed for it. How can i defend these allegations if the dvla have messed up with the records.
Would appreciate a reply with advice.
Best regards Read more
Hi, by the looks of the initial letter the mib have sent they have just received this matter and have not paid out yet.
The police did not visit but they sent a letter, all details were filled and sent off and nothing back up until after 2 years???
