Hello

I recieved a parking ticket the other day for being 5 mins late in a residential parking area without a permit.... but the warden has miss aligned the ticket in the printer and you cannot read it properly, it looks like if I pay within 14 days there is no charge! Have I got a case?... Read more

Even though its not in line it can still be read and the general meaning is understandable,so i doubt very much that they'll let you off.

We have had this car 13 years with no major problems. Two weeks ago we had the clutch changed and note that we cant move into fifth gear - could this be a cause of the following problem:

Three days ago while driving the accelerator gauge went to zero and the car just stopped. Tried repeatedly to start - it turns over but will not crank. Had it towed and diagnostic done came up with a load of fault codes but the mechanics cant work out what is wrong? Can anyone help. We have made all the regualr cheques, fuel, batter, plugs etc etc. Any ideas we are in Ethiopia and need this car to work! Thanks Read more

I have logged in and the forum answers given seemed to have disappeared?

Anyway we are no further ahead....this is a third world country and the mechanics not of western standard. They are still trying to ascertain what is wrong!! Thanks for the suggestions re looking again at different fault codes...we are taking a print out of it to the mechanic....a one hour bus ride away! We will not write again until we can say the car is fixed....dont know when that will be!...

My car has blown a headlight bulb. How do I tell whether it's a standard Halogen bulb or Xenon bulb? Read more

elekie&a/c doctor

halogen headlight bulbs illuminate immediately as soon as they are switched on.Xenon bulbs have a very slight delay/flicker before they reach max brightness. Also if you lift the bonnet, cars fitted with Xenons often have a yellow "high voltage" sticker attached to the front panel. If the car has headlight washers ,then this is often an indication of xenons fitted. My experience of Audis fitted with xenon headlights that fail ,it is often not the bulb at fault, but the electronic ballast unit that has gone. Not a cheap fix.hth

I have recently bought this vehicle and had it converted professionally to a camping van. There was a problem with performance and the dealer found the MAF faulty and replaced it. I found improved performance but I have read about remapping the MAF which increases torque, performance and fuel economy. Do you have an opinion on this? There is a respected company in my area which would do it save a copy of original map and put it back to original if I wished. Read more

I'd go easy. The 1.9 TDi is available in much higher outputs in lighter veicles and there's a reason the heavy vehicles are fitted with the lower powered versions,

A bump in torque and horsepower will be fine for a bit of acceleration, but don't use it as an excuse to select a gear for the day. Increasing power and torque is easy. Gains in fuel economy are much harder to achieve. They'll get a bit by advancing the injection timing and reducing EGR but don't expect much in the way of economy. If you're running the engine hard, more frequent oil changes would be advisable.

I own a silver Toyota Corolla 02-07 saloon car. Some stains are on the bodywork around the doors and my mechanic says they were more than likely caused by suncream on hands and that he can't think of a way to remove them. The stains are shiny white and oily in nature and repeated car washes which are otherwise excellent have failed to remove them. If I try to scrub them off with a cloth they disappear for a few seconds then reappear. Is there a method you could recommend that would clean these stains off without damaging the paintwork. Many thanks. Read more

Has anybody heard of this happening before? Well it's happened to me! Not sure of the resulting damage and cost yet? Likely causes please anyone? Do you think mazda UK should compensate me for this? Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Ps:- mazda claim that non manufacturer servicing carried out post warranty expiry could be attributable? If that is the case why aren't I seeing broken down mazdas everywhere? Surely during a recession everyone isn't sticking to manufacturers servicing? Read more

Its a Mazda, sorry but i'll be amazed if the maker contributes anything worth mentioning, but hope to be amazed in this case.

Many posts i've read about Toyota honouring their responsibilities long after warranty has expired where owners have had aftermarket but decent servicing, but it does make sense to keep the main dealer service history complete up to say 5 years, IF the manufacturer is reputed for sustomer care....

I was told that Vredestein recommend 2.8bar for my Wintrac 4 Xtreme tyres. Their website confirms it. This is .6 bar over the car manufacturers . I tried this when I first had them and the ride was very stiff. I've settled for 2.4 which is comfier and the tyres work well in all conditions especially the wet and last year's one week of snow.

Hey there,

I bought a 2nd hand grand scenic 1.5dci. and it is coming up to it's end of a three month warranty. now that there are cold mornings i am finding it impossible to select a gear (any gear) untill the car has warmed up. and as the car gets warmer the easier it is to change gear.... Read more

Peter.N.

Do you mean that the gearlever won't move or that it crunches when you try and put it into gear, will it go into reverse without crunching? It could well be that the clutch is not disengaging properly, if so it will crunch when trying to engage reverse.
