Hi Guys

I noticed when checking the heat cover for the back box on a Ford Mondeo Estate (1.8l, 2003), that the rubber cover for what I think is the nearside rear shock absorber has deterioted on one side (with a hole big enough to put a couple of fingers through) - is this an easy job to do for someone who isnt a mechanic by trade, or is it a big, expensive job that needs urgent attention?.

Thanks

Hi Mate

Yes, the rubber bump stop that mates to the lower arm. The nearside one is worn as mentioned, with a gap about 2-3cm wide and from roughly 0.2-1cm in height. The offside one is unaffected at the moment....

Did you buy it privately or from a dealer?

Hi all

I have 2000 model Xantia 2.0hdi 90bhp with AirCon, when I put the boot down to go up through the gears the engine gives a wavy sound to it as if she is not firing on all cylinders or not getting diesel. pulled out the fuel pressure regulator at the weekend and blew it out with a air hose, all was clean there. plugged the computer in and one injector was injecting too much fuel, got that one changed and still happening.... I wonder if its the relay unit . its been on computer check 4 times showing no problems with codes. could it be the fuel pump relay ?, i bought one from my local volks shop it has a number 103 on it but tried it , it was the wrong one different number so taking back to shop to change it. hpoing you can help, many thanks kawa Read more

I agree. The stopping and starting are typical symptoms of a failed "Hall" sender. I recall when I experienced such a failure many years ago, that I got a second hand replacement part from the helpful garage, which solved the problem.

Over the past three weeks my polo has been difficult to start but yesterday would not start at all . The engine turns over fine but will not fire . To-day i took each spark plug out individually and they all sparked fine . Also i disconnected the fuel line and turned the ignition and the fuel seemed to pump through fine . One thing i have noticed is when the ignition key is turned to its first position ,so at to activate the fuel pump, the pump takes quite a while to reach pressure ,about 8 seconds . Could this be the problem ? Read more

In events like we've had recently, you go to where you left your car and find that the water level has been up to about the bottom of the windows. What happens next?

My sister in law has a Chrysler Grand Voyager which is 9 months out of warranty. For the last year the car has had to be taken to either the main dealer in Cornwall 35 miles from where she lives, or at best a local tyre depot as every time the tyre valve is connected to a tyre pressure pump the valve snaps and the tyre immediately goes flat. The tyre low pressure warning alarm will sound soon after new valves are fitted meaning a trip to a tyre specialist ot the main dealer "Carr's of Cornwall" at Indian Queens. Each repair is costing £100 - £150.... Read more

Thanks for the replies. It's as I've always suspected the cars basically a load of junk with little or no dealer support. My recommendation to my sister in law remains "buy a half decent car"!
