Chrysler Grand Voyager - Tyre valves snap off flattening tyre. - pixels

My sister in law has a Chrysler Grand Voyager which is 9 months out of warranty. For the last year the car has had to be taken to either the main dealer in Cornwall 35 miles from where she lives, or at best a local tyre depot as every time the tyre valve is connected to a tyre pressure pump the valve snaps and the tyre immediately goes flat. The tyre low pressure warning alarm will sound soon after new valves are fitted meaning a trip to a tyre specialist ot the main dealer "Carr's of Cornwall" at Indian Queens. Each repair is costing £100 - £150.

Is this a known problem? Would my sister in law have any recourse with the dealer as this problem manifested itself before the warranty expired without a satisfactory resolution?

Your opinion on this issue would be gratefully received. Thank you.

Richard

Have a search around the forums here.

As I recall that's a well-known problem that has come up many times in the past. Those valves with the tyre pressure monitoring built in are made of cream cheese and break under the influence of harsh language, never mind tools. Sounds like you've been lucky and have yet to have one give up in normal operation as others have, resulting in a flat tyre at the roadside.

IIRC your choices are to either live with it or fit standard valves and disable the monitoring system.

Thanks for the replies. It's as I've always suspected the cars basically a load of junk with little or no dealer support. My recommendation to my sister in law remains "buy a half decent car"!
