hi, my 97 1600 polo keeps stopping after a few minutes due to losing spark. So far i have fitted new throttle body , new temperature sensor,new coil. it had tick over problems which are now sorted. I wonder if its the relay unit . its been on computer check 4 times showing no problems with codes. could it be the fuel pump relay ?, i bought one from my local volks shop it has a number 103 on it but tried it , it was the wrong one different number so taking back to shop to change it. hpoing you can help, many thanks kawa

to follow on my previous message Hi, I have reason to believe it is the automatic gearbox sensor as the same thing happend to my father in laws car a while back so going to have try it.

The distributor on the head contains a hall effect sensor which the ECU uses to trigger the coil and make a spark, the hall sender is prone to failure.

I agree. The stopping and starting are typical symptoms of a failed "Hall" sender. I recall when I experienced such a failure many years ago, that I got a second hand replacement part from the helpful garage, which solved the problem.
