I've badgered/reported to Garmin and Navteq (their mapping supplier) but around half the indicated speed limits shown on my Garmin are incorrect. Many limits in Derbyshire have been permanently reduced by 10mph.
Anyone have a definitive answer as to when/how often these data get amended?... Read more
Indeed. But 30mph repeaters are ,bizzarely, illegal and so signs are not always there.
When going through the random 30-40-50 mph cycle on the A6 it would ne nice to have a clear back up as to the limits. Noted several signs either missing or hidden recently- another reason to have a back up....
Hi all.
My other half is having starting problems with her 2005 Renault Grand Scenic - sometimes takes 2-3 minutes to start, but once it's started it runs ok.... Read more
Apologies - it's a 1600 manual petrol.
I've read the HJ write ups and looked on Which, but can I seek advice from the BR please from those that HAVE driven both models. I'm after one of these up to 2 years old. Can those that qualify please comment on which to go for in respect of reliability and cost to run etc. So no owners of older models need to comment please. It will be a genuinely expensive purchase, so no off thread banter would be much appreciated. So which diesel, BMW 3 series or Mercedes C class? Read more
With our fleet I would say the opposite is true.
Hi i have narrowed my choices down to Audi A1 1.2 TFSI petrol or the Polo 1.2 TSI petrol , i have noticed the Audi engine is 84/4800 bhp/rpm and the Polo is 103/5000 bhp/rpm which engine would suit a hilly terrain ? , i am asking this because where we live i will always be travelling down hill and reverse on the way home approx 3miles down to flat motorways Read more
They are both the same engine (as an earlier poster said) but in different states of tune.
Happily both are turbocharged-and turbocharged petrols have fantastically wide powerbands-way better than diesels. You won't be stirring the gear lever much....
I am looking for a reliable modest tow car for a modest sized caravan, and I was wondering if anybody has advice. My starting point was a 1.9 diesel Focus, say 2-3 years old, with a tow capacity of 1500kg. However, I have seen on Autotrader a lot of 1.6 diesel i30's at reasonable prices, which can pull 1400kg, and this should be enough. I am also attracted to the Octavia which has a similar load capacity.
While in the Skoda showroom, I was much taken by the Yeti because of its excellent rear visibility - good for reversing, but of course there are not many secondhand Yetis around yet.... Read more
No such thing as a 1.9 Focus, they come in 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 flavours.
Having towed quite a bit in the past with 1.9 VW's and 2.0 Mondeo's I would say forget the 1.6's. They might look good on paper and are brilliant in normal use but for towing size matters IMHO.
It happens to the best?

So 1/2 of the cost of filling his fuel tank. Thats going to hurt! >:)
I have the above and experienced something I have not experienced before although I only got the car last May. I drove my wife to work at 8am this morning and the car stalled three or four times on the way home. The total journey is 5 miles return. The revs dropped when I dipped the clutch and it stalled. The engine management light did not come on and it restarted immediately. The oil is a 10/40 semi synthetic put in by the supplying garage last May. I then took it on the motorway for a 70mph run of 7 or 8 miles each way and there was no problem at all when I had done this. The car gets mixed motoring of urban running and some out of town and motorway work. I was thinking of trying to block off part of the radiator with cardboard on the outside but this is harder than it used to be with other cars I have owned. Apart from keeping the revs up by holding on to the gears I cannot think of anything else I could be doing from a cold start. Does anyone have any thoughts on what it might be and how I could help myself?
Many thanks,... Read more

I have recently bought a 2006 Shogun Sport 2.5 Trojan with 44,000miles on the clock. Whilst I'm very pleased with it a long run down the quiet French motorways turned in about 24mpg. Never really went above 75mph and most of the time 65mph (about 3,000 revs). It's got winter tyres on it.
Is this what I should expect?
Any tips on improving this please. Read more
Thats about right for a 2 ton brick with masses of transmission to drag round, keep it to 60mph and it might return 30mpg.

Thank you for that wonderful reply. You have no idea how few people seem to know what to do in these situations! As it is, I am in the process of booking my car in for a Vehicle Identification Check VIC to begin the process. This has led to another question which I have posted. Many thanks for your time to reply TeeCee.
