Hi,

I purchased a 2002 Vsuxhall Astra convertible 18 mos ago. Recently I noticed a tyre on my alloy wheels is losing pressure within days of being pumped up, so I ordered a new tyre but when I took it to be fitted, the guy said there was no wheel bolt key and the tyre couldn't be removed without it. I had no idea what this was or where to get a new one. ... Read more

Have a really good search for the key first, get down with a torch and search every nook and cranny.

Even on brand new cars we used to find the wheel keys tucked in all sorts of places, i've found them when the dealer couldn't and was going to endorse the delivery paperwork....

Reliable and well-maintained 130k SEAT Toledo Tdi with reconditioned dsg gearbox has sound like metal keys lightly jangling up through transmission when accelerating and changing up in auto mode, probably more often from stopped or low speed. Noise stops after change then does not come back when driving. Doesn't happen on down change. Seemingly DMF and clutches okay. Mainly happens in colder weather. Happened 3 years ago and it went away. Any ideas what it is? BTW, the car drives really well and the changes are fast and smooth... Read more

I am very interested in the differences between VCA MPG and real MPG. Is it possible to know the number of respondents giving their own MPG data for each model i.e. the sample size, to give an indication of reliability of the information? Read more

The responses so far, whilst accurate, do not answer the OP’s query.

When the Real MPG Register was started, I thought “What a great idea!”. Like the OP, however, I was dissappointed to find that the spreadsheet doesn’t indicate the sample size. At the moment it only needs 2 people to log their mpg for a figure to be given for a particular car. That’s not really fair on the manufacturer nor particularly useful for a buyer.

Is it too late to put that right?

I compared the HJ values against the VCA test values (for around 1000 models) and the overall relationship was close but for around a 13% shortfall in MPG compared to VCA but there also appears to be a bias - higher VCA MPG values yield a larger shortfall and newer car models yield a larger shortfall. If true this is very important result in relation to car emission estimates and forecasts but the lack of sample size info reduces confidence in the results. Would be good if the number of correspondents was simply logged next to the range values....

Is this Prius ..think that's how to spell it... Going to save you money in the real world. Seems an expensive car to start with and still needs servicing etc.
Big downside for me is the battery pack...how much will that be and batteries always seem to deteriorate with time, wouldn't, that effect performance in general anyway. Any thought? Read more

Trying to find an effecient, smallish auto I have tried the Prius recently, possibly to change my Golf DSG for.

Having done the reading up, it looked just the ticket. The dealer let me loose for a whole 3 hours on my own....

My Nissan Micra is smoking only on starting.

Get the guides replaced on 2 and 3 which should have been part of the previous episode.

New seals should have been fitted on all valves last time too....

Hi

I was in an accident this week where the breaks felt like they popped under my foot and then the pedal went flat to the floor, the result of this was quite a serious crash in which the car was taken for inspection by the police. It was I who phoned the police and reported the incident and now they are claiming the breaks are fine and they might prosecute me for careless driving!!! I have advised the police they definitely have it wrong and I know what happened as I was there but they wont believe me. I read an article on here dated in 2001 stating they had issues with the breaks failing and then going back to normal again.... I was just wondering if anyone else has had similar issues?... Hi,

I may be looking for a good quality 5 door hatch, petrol (too many short runs to consider diesel), and with "Start/Stop" feature. I would look for something up to 3 years old, a little more if from one of the premium brands.

Has anyone compiled a directory of makes/models that have been offered with start/stop?... Read more
